It's funny how every large professional grow is a mix of CMH and HPS lights Having said that, I just bought a gavita LED the 2400e to check it out Comment from : William Wonder |

Heat cames good in winter , leds could be very cold in a cold winter , ,Led are very good in summer, use what yuo can get for the right moment Comment from : no way |

Ive built and bought newest tech leds something like 20k$ now, and i still think 5500-6500k old non ceramic metal halide is the beast in veg Comment from : Seppo Taalasmaa |

I’ve been growing for 15 years and I used LEDs for the past 5 runs and I’m happy with everything about them but the smoke itself Comment from : Sergio Granados |

I would argue that spread is a benefit in a multi light situation Comment from : JJ |

Nothing beats the massive growth of HIDbrBut most growers are happy with the usual sized marble buds and mega cropping brI miss the old days of football size colas Comment from : kydrythm |

Love my mh and hps Comment from : Scot Sanders |

You can grow fine flowers using only MH Some people used to swear by it so I do not have a clue what you are talking about!!!!??? How come there is 1 milloion channels on weed now and people don't seem to know what they're talking about???? Clearly absolute ideal situation would be an hps to help with that natural style transpiration, supplemented by led's for efficiency Funny how no one seems to be doing that Been doing that the last 10 years and results speak for themself Probably because everyone's busy selling their brand as the answer to everyones problems Comment from : Rhize |

I love my 600watt hps adujta shade i get 16 grams per watt Comment from : bigredinfinity |
what ever happened to plasma grow lights? Comment from : Xan User |
The yield from 1 4x4 area, using HPS, will out yield a 10x10 room using the best LED That's my experience, with my genetics anyway LEDs are now pulling about the same wattage from the wall as well In colder regions, it's going to cost more to heat a room, than cool it For $1200 for a quality LED is rediculous! Comment from : Kid Dynamite |
I still haven’t made the switch to LED, and their definitely far from garbage Specially with the right unit and bulb u can get some awesome results I’m not knocking LED at all I plan on making the switch eventually And of course they do run hot so proper ventilation is a must :) honestly I think everyone should use what works best for them and their current situation and set up No 2 growers are the same and this goes the same for their gardens If it’s working for u than don’t let anyone tell u otherwise Comment from : Stoner Mike |
why all big grow companies use hid instead of led? Comment from : Dave Teabag |
No hot spots with DE HPS NONE Comment from : white Owl |
I don’t give a fig who uses what I myself use 1000wt DE HPS 23 years growing And there is no problems Comment from : white Owl |
I prefer hid grow lights I have T5, HPS, and LED HID prevents me from needing to heat my large grow room in winterwhich is the only time I use grow lights Also the light energy has a longer rangeatleast according to my lux meter Which allows me to just put 4 1k watt hoods in a 10x14 grow shed and I am able to produce enough light to maintain the plants for the 2 months they go in the shed Comment from : すし |

Can metal halide bulbs burn wood? I wonder if incandescent can burn wood as well Comment from : Loudspeaker Tests & More By Aidan Shane Wade |
Tried my first led after growing consistently with my mh and hps since 2008 All it did was put spots on my leaves and slightly yellow them out The growth was so much slower, less lush green, and less fuller of a plant When I put the plants under the mh's They did a 180 turnaround Looked like George Cervantes himself started growing them Never even think about trying them again Comment from : Kevin Rivard |
Nothing like a good ol mag ballast Cheap to buy and cheap to replace bulb every year Also reliable and repairable Comment from : C L |
Pretty sure most of people defending LEDS like fan boys have not tried double ended LECs brbrI´ve been using both new Lumatek LEDS (29) and Lumatek double ended LECSbrbrDuring the summer LEDS are better and during the winter LECS are better That simple brbrWhy? No A/C during the summer and no heating during the winter! Comment from : Salo Vila |

Why can't led put out the same spectrum as a hpsif you don't ask you don't know Comment from : Andy Crawford |

It's worth clarifying that a light's efficiency and how much heat it generates are two ways of saying the same thingbrAn electric appliance of any kind, including any type of electric light, can be considered a 100 efficient electric heater That's because all of the electricity consumed by the appliance ends up as heat energy in the system (in this case the "system" being the grow room); the question is how much of that energy is first emitted as photons in the wavelengths we need for growing plants brTo put it another way, if we have a HID light and an LED light that each consume 100 Watts, they both will produce exactly the same amount of heat energy over the course of one hour (360,000 joules) An LED emits a greater share of that energy in the form of light, which makes it a more efficient technology brThis may seem like a fine point, but I think it's important to understand that efficiency is a measure of excess heat brI really enjoy your Garden Talk Podcast and other vids Thanks for making them and conveying such a wealth of knowledge Comment from : Michael Burr |
Im still using hid but i also use leds but only in med veg Comment from : Bkeast Smith |
And that guy on the left is totally not a seasoned grower a metal halide can flower , it's best to finish with it and mimic fall than finish with far red atleast Bruce higbee educated half of this chat but guy on left nahhh later Comment from : tchef2525 |

Used HID for years, switched to LED, honestly not seeing much of a difference, still get nice dense, sticky as hell terped out buds, just need to know what your doing Comment from : Maty Ice |
With prices in Europe for electricity they would cost me triple to operate for the same results with LEDs Comment from : danilko paskudnik |
the first MH and HPS had different ballasts, the bulbs were not interchangeable like they are now Comment from : Larry Soss |
DE HID fixtures are awesome I'm not spending 3 x more for a light that has to be replaced after 50k hours when I can just replace the HPS bulb lol Comment from : Phillip Jacobs |
All my HLG put out heat compare to HPS My vegetative health is far superior under metal halide I get it, I understand it's the new thing and everybody's jumping on the bandwagon But my scorpion Diablo is collecting dust in the corner after using it for four runs I won't use it again I got better flower and phenotypical expression with my MH/HPS I guess I'm just an old dinosaur The problem I'm seeing is that all these different LED lights are different Spectrums and when I hang my ushio 600 up it's the same no matter what strain Now if I give my Santa Cruz blue dream cutting to 10 different people running all different LEDs it's going to come out differently I guess to clarify if everyone is using that same LED fixture It would solve that I hope that makes sense You need to build your room for LED and it's less forgiving when it isn't dialed in IMO Comment from : Blackbriar518 |
HID gets too hot Comment from : Kirk McGill |
I’m balls deep on LEDs now…no turning back…they’re just more efficient anyway Comment from : Jason Chappell |
Great for the winter months here in New England they'll never be obsolete Comment from : Adam Peckham |
Yes LEDs are awful for flower They don't have the IR to induce flowering properly I can show grow after grow that even the best LED grows will not touch It also costs a lot more to heat a room than cool That picture was taken under a 600w, but I'll equal that using 250w The top LEDs are pulling over 700 watts from the wall Comment from : Kid Dynamite |
I have to disagree with Lex on using MH during flower They can be beneficial in conjuntion with HPS adding some blue to the overall spectrum However, LED are the way to go imo @hlg for the win! Comment from : Asyouwish 114 |
i was switching to HPS for flower from MH, but after listening to Bruce Bugbee it seems it might be better to use MH the whole way through The only benefit from switching to HPS seems to be its slightly more efficient, but i like the added blue in flower Comment from : Astral |
I've literally only switched to led this past year or so I do think hps are great for the flowering phase if u can't afford at top led but controlling the temp has been easier having said that I do have to use a heater on cold days lol Comment from : GMAN LIMITED Anderson-0driscoll |
Cheap and nasty hid still outperforming LEDs in my book , climate is a big factor if you're in a cold area you need to add heat with LEDs hid vs led is like coal vs solar Both work, coal sucks for the environment but it's reliable Solar is expensive high tech and doesn't rely on grid but needs rare earth minerals in it's components Comment from : Keep it Simple Hydro |
I think replacing hps with led in bloom is almost a no brainer, but from the migro video I watched on this channel, it seems like LEDs don't deliver an enough blue to best the MH in veg Comment from : 55tdt |
I use a mix of white leds and hpsbrHps helps keep the room temps good for me as I am in Alberta and it gets cold in winterbrI also use growers choice tube hoods over the one my local hydro shop recommended as it doesn't have such a good foot print Comment from : Larry Lynn |
LED's have changed the game Metal Halides are good bulbs They got the job done back when I used them But heat was always an issue Now with electricity rates being so high, LED's are the way forward for most growers For those just getting into home gardening, LED's are the most bang for your buck these days Comment from : jppagetoo |

HPS blow away LEDs I've proven it time after time after time Comment from : Kid Dynamite |

chris, do you know the product : halo harpin? Comment from : peppertime1 |
Has anyone done this? Was it worth it?brLED the whole way until the last 2 weeks pull the LED and use HPS or HID or even just add it in with the LED Any thoughts Comment from : DontInterruptMeCunt |
The best weed I smoke today is grown from HID LED is like smoking mid grade Comment from : Tradez |
I get better results with HID I don’t care about electricity costs Comment from : Tradez |

HID's are good to use in winter they stop your room getting cold that stops the root system taking up nutrients when the temperature gets to low Comment from : NO Expectations |
The answer to the title of this video is NO it's tried and truebr These LEDs are also good with a slight feel of a gimmick but I do think LEDs are more for hobbyists, not professionals because they don't carry the light penetration that is necessary for the canopies Comment from : SOJUSLIIM TDFLOCK |
HID have much better penetration Comment from : John Doe |

The beautiful thing about LEDs is that they’ll constantly get better Better diodes, better drivers, customizable spectrums LEDs like raging kush can toggle between spectrums for veg/flower and IR Comment from : xd ae |
I'm actually using LED lights in my tent and im growing some really mice flower flower are very dense and solid hard I want to try CMH lights next with LED and compare the the two and see what results I'll get Comment from : Pack Gang |
I love LEDs! But the best bud I ever grew was with 1000w dual-spectrum bulbs! 600w HPS and 400w MH all in one bulb! Only problem is the heat and the electrical bill!!! Comment from : kcbennie |
hids are great for starting fires in your attic Comment from : eggs panda |
Always check your Leaf Temps when growing with LEDs! HID/HPS will give you good heat coming down onto your leafs/plants LEDs not really So usually running LEDs you wanna raise up your temps and make sure your leafs temps are on good Veg 80-83 same for early flower Later in flower 75- 80 Comment from : Kush CoBain |
Using 18/6 for veg and 12/12 for flowering increases electrical costs and it's plain a bad idea using this lighting cycle Comment from : JQ |
Do you need Cal Mag for LED's? Comment from : Brice Griggs |
electrical inefficiency IS heatbrso is mechanical Comment from : Kulahptik |
I had my Magnetic Dimlux ballasts for years paired with Big Kahuna air cooled hoods Only problem is when moved to city it messed with peoples cable lol In the country no problem Actually I liked the flower development from Metal Halide Well using in last few weeks of flowerTho eventually switched to Hortlilux HPS conversation, But switched to LEDs 13 years ago and never looked back Comment from : Tim Page |
People who live in cold climates may prefer something that emits more heat You can always supplement with something like 50w led strips or bulbs Comment from : timm3r |
I wonder, if you live some place there is very hot, why dont you grow outdoors? I live in Denmark, we have actually at best 4 Sunny days a year We are forced to grow indoor But i would love to be able to grow Outdoor, i mean no bill, no tent, no smell no noice Why dont you??? Comment from : Nightmer |
4k CMH lights are still very effective, reliable and cost competitive veg solution as the price point keeps going down due to the cost of a veg specific LEDs The spectrum a relatively low heat output is still a very popular commercial solution for vegging Comment from : michael casey |
I think it depends on what you're trying to do HID is mature, proven technology If you live someplace cold it makes no sense to buy a heater and an LED setup when HIDs with proper ventilation can do bothbrbrYou can 100 grow excellent plants with HID and LED Comment from : Scott Free |
My only problem with LED grow lights is that individual LED's burn out I can replace a bulb that burned out With LED you either DYI repair it voiding any warranty or send the whole unit in for repairs No one ever seem to bring that up either Comment from : Playingwith3D |
