hmm that fake silver bar still rang Comment from : @swish1onu |
You can also use a short 3/8 or 5/16th dowel and get very similar (almost these exact results) results with way less of a chance of damage to a coin! Comment from : @danofiremano |
Not going to work for me Thought the first fake silver sounded real and the real sounded fake Gotta be a better method Comment from : @hagbard72 |

Very useless test because every coin sounds different The maple leaf for example sounds different from the ping of the american eagle I already thought it was a fake coin and even damaged it a little bit Comment from : @irvinethearcherich8035 |
Silver its pretty and sounds nice Comment from : @chocolatechips1183 |
Hi I saw your video and I like it very much, I have a question for you, I noticed that the sound of gold coins looks the same as the sound of silver coins Is it really like that or is it just my impression?brThank you Comment from : @hobbygt9763 |
hi, for the fake coin next to the fake bar, does it contain silver at all? Although its sound doesn't last long, its sound frequency seems to tell it is made of silver Comment from : @leeroypana7920 |
The only piece of silver I have that didn't ring is the 999 1 ounce I got from the bank Weird Comment from : @oneword7143 |

I just got a bunch of silver Maple Leaf from a reputable dealer and they don't sound like your real coins, my ones actually don't chime that long like yourson the other hand i used 2 ping test app and after several attempt they said the coins are realnot sure what would be the most trusted method to do this (i really don't want to scratch / bleach / acid them Comment from : @needsomehike |
I have one pesos 1907 / fifty centavos 1903 Real silver Comment from : @genarogonzaga7391 |
Like using Sigma Metalytics Precious Metals Verifier but you need to be aware that older gold and silver coins like from pre-civil war aren't always accurate in it's content and may be out of the range area on the Sigma Metalystic Precious Metals Verifier Comment from : @leoguy1609 |
Apart from the bar, they all sounded the same In fact, the first fake coin sounded even better than the real coin I definitely wouldn't trust that test Comment from : @aucourant9998 |
Every bullion coin/round/bar will sound different depending how it was made and if it is truly 999 or 9999 also the size in which it was minted will make a difference The ping test is no conclusive by far Sorry Comment from : @CuSTACKS |
Mere pas hai silvsr coin bechna hai 9822616097mubai thane Comment from : @yogeshmhatre7729 |
Too good, thanks a ton! But does the shape and thickness of pure silver emit different sound ie a pure silver coin of 10g v/s pure silver rectangular bar you have there? Or will it all still have the high pitch, melodious, longer lingering sound to it Comment from : @deepasinghal4729 |
Thanks!!!!!!!!!! Comment from : @denisnumismat2066 |
Thanks Comment from : @denp54z |

Oooh Comment from : @davidtighter9481 |
They all look silver They are all silver to me! Comment from : @myyoutube1979 |
Pretty easy to distinguish 90 from post 64 coins just spinning them on a table and letting them fall, the 90 ones have a distinctively different tone Of course you have to compare like denominations but a 90 quarter has a very different sound than a post 64 one, same with dimes, halfs and dollars I am just getting into this game and very much enjoy these types of video's, I found the difference in sound by mistake Comment from : @charliedee9276 |
Thanks!! Comment from : @gbat2479 |

Old cash registers - yeah, I worked with those - had a marble shelf The purpose was to check the validity of coins The merchant would tap the coin on the marble It was easy to tell a real coin from a fake I use a small marble slab and drop the coin PING! Comment from : @lonestarhog7407 |
I think that silver is malleable, but not so much that it is deformed by that touch Also, in this video you are exaggerating the touch for our hearing benefit On the other hand, that touch clearly demonstrates the difference in sounds between real and false coins Thanks for sharing your experience Comment from : @julitozoo |
Can I use a non silver coin to do a ping test? Comment from : @killowatraibikio2855 |
Chinese counterfeit terrifies Chinese too Comment from : @AKDGsonic |
Can someone tell me how the fuck can u get a fake silver coin or bar in your hands if you buy them directly from mints like apmex or us mint Comment from : @kelemdz3925 |
Using an audio spectrum analyzer on your smart phone you can have reported to you the composition of the sound as the analyzer will display the frequencies in Hz (cycles per second) Each coin may have it's frequency cataloged My Morgan & Peace dollars pretty much ring out with two frequencies composing their ringing sound 4350Hz and 10KHz I have one Peace Dollar ringing out at 4308Hz and just under 10KHz, the edge of the coin is just a shade thicker and more squared than the others, they all stop a pendulum magnet Comment from : @rustyyb8450 |
The Buffalo doesn't ping well at all Comment from : @johngriffiths3952 |

For those hard of hearing like myself, look up the silver magnet test I personally find it much more conclusive 👍🏻 Comment from : @thephilarmy5 |
Sorry but the "ping" test is not reliable I bought some 1973 Greek Drachma that ring as sweet as any silver bell you can bring to bear I purchased a dozen for less than $150 because I liked them Lovely coin, but NOT silver Comment from : @khankrum1 |
What I do is flip the coin, from the flick it will make the coin ping Comment from : @crzyofficial7658 |
Remember, silver is the best conductor of heat of any metal on Earth, when the ice melts the coin should be ice cold Be smart and stick to Middle denominations such as half dollars, Walking Liberty half dollars, silver quarters and Mercury dimes The only reason we buy silver is for when the black market emerges, and it will Garbage paper money will be gone soon, if you don't have a good amount of silver you will be fucked Comment from : @hugostiglitz4215 |
My Canadian maples do not make the sound Why? Comment from : @oscarortiz1417 |
Thanks brother, I appreciate the video Comment from : @benfrankog6111 |
i propose that we stop calling 90 silver 'junk' silver when it's not junk and it's real silver i propose that we call the common quarters today 'junk' quarters why don't we call things as they are? Comment from : @humilulo |
Silver Maple Leafs don’t ping like this I thought all my Maple Leafs were fake until I did more research Comment from : @David-gv6jf |
Thank God, mine passed the ping test, got them all off Ebay, was a little nervous Comment from : @maroinmybones |
Thanks for the info! Comment from : @justmeonthebeach |
The thickness is a big factor generic silver rounds are thicker and won’t ring like that I hope your not only relying on the ping test to determine if they are real you should always do a magnet slide test and acid test on any pieces in question Comment from : @jedijeff5732 |
Interesting! What does a silver plated copper round sound like? Comment from : @thebruffy1077 |
Thanks, it helped I liked it Comment from : @andygusso383 |
The time doesn’t matter, the tone does and even that can vary based on geometry The ping test really isn’t very reliable Comment from : @scottfree6479 |
However, it also beats up a legit coin and lowers coin collecting value Dropping onto a sheet of thick glass instead can produce similar affects Comment from : @leebrewer1190 |
Buffalo coin sound different than American eagles as well though Comment from : @ThatsToughTV |
What is a junk silver pieces mean? Compared to real or fake Comment from : @yeshuaisthewaythetruthandt515 |
Keep knocking it off my finger Lol Comment from : @zaggermanking29 |
Do you have additional testing on the first fake coin? Any magnet or density data? Comment from : @johngraham7080 |
how much the trade dollar 1876 Comment from : @donnacabanig5840 |
i wish you compared a real silver bar Comment from : @tradom5843 |
Also the magnetic test is good, I have uploaded a video on my page about how to see if a coin is fake Comment from : @Linux-computers |
so by this test that silver bar is real even tho you can look at it and tell it is totally fake maybe get some acid Comment from : @redlanalder |
I brought three 90 silver coins, It passed the ping test but when I got home, I test it with a magnet The magnet picked right up Comment from : @ThorNarak |
haha thats cool! Comment from : @mynusss |
Im using earphones and high volume, the real coins sound for 2 seconds , the fake ones last one second, the silver bar es real Comment from : @sunnerick |
Good video! Thank you! It's a shame that the mic is not picking up all the sound Real silver has a very deep, rich and creamy ( almost buttery ) chime to it Fake coins will have a nasty ear piercing shrill This test is pretty reliable if you train your ear Comment from : @SmartEmployee |
You can ping the coin using a wooden pencil or plastic knife This will save the coin from nicking or scratchs Fisch makes a coin ringer and you can use an app called Coin Bullion to test the ring of most precious metal coins Comment from : @750SonyP |
The real silver sounds great, like a chime, that fake one hurt my ears :/ Great tip, thanks Comment from : @SingalongInsomnia |
My mexican silver libertads have a higher sounding pitch than your real silver eagles, they do sustain the sound for about 15 seconds and it does melt ice very quickly, is it possible i have a fake? Comment from : @andreschneider6862 |
no difference in sound;; this ping test is a joke as are most of the other ways of telling fakes The Chinese have figured out how to have the fakes weigh out right also the Chinese have ruined the gold and silver markets Best off just buying the etfs GLD and SLV paper funds are better than fake coins Comment from : @888strummer |
Do silver eagles and 1 oz buffalo rounds sound different Comment from : @Nickgiorgio111 |
Does this also work for silver ring ? Comment from : @IslamicStereo |
