No tipping is expected - because we believe in paying proper wages in NZ You can if you want to and many cafes and restaurants will have a jar on the counter for you to drop money into if you so wish

I was born in New Zealand so spent most of my childhood growing up in New Zealand until I moved to the UK and I’ve never really known anything about making sure you offer People a cup of tea I can obviously say that it does happen in the UK, but I can’t remember it ever been in a big thing in New Zealand I would say that offering someone a beer would be the big clean we definitely do not get on with Australia and yes we were the first people to come up with Pavlova it was not an Australian desert, but New Zealand one

Working hours (cafes etc) are NOT weird WE treat out workers with a bit of decency and allow them family and own time so they also can do their banking, shopping, see their kids after school etc When I was in New York , apart from a Greek restaurant, a very expensive "stall" with bowls of fresh fruit salads, and finally cheeses and meats in a deli in Harlem, here was no edible food at all and the coffee was undrinkable

As a kiwi born here, some of what you are saying is way off base We do have franchising here, McDonalds, subway, kfc etc are here Just know the north island has something that the south doesn't have and visa versa, mostly because of the high concentration of other nationalities Having lived in Australia for over 18 years NZ and Australia are two mostly different countries, as is Canada and US We don't have tipping because staff are paid the minimum or above wages, which is the law I dont believe tipping is necessary if staff are paid properly and all they need is thank you when you leave
