The difference is that the government and other malicious entities have played the shell game with gold for a long time I don't think they can hide the Bitcoins am I wrong? I'm not a smart man, but how in the world am I supposed to trust anyone's estimation of how much gold exists? How do I know that my certificates will be any good when it comes down to it? Also, I don't really buy the intrinsic value argument aren't there other metals that are scarce and far more useful?

It's not clear to me, why you can't have a trust based coin! like fiat! or bitcoin!brThe problem with fiat is its inflation/deflationbrEcoins are for liquid transactions and gold is for saving! brYou can't pay in gold, but you can do it from a "trusted virtual number" (credit card)!brbrEither way I distrust bitcoin, because it is deflationary (wallets gets lost) and finitely fractionalbrSomeday (guessing 50 years) you will not be able to spend half satoshi, the limit is 1 satoshi, and you will have to move to the next currency

Gold never had any intrinsic value as a metal until modern times and it was still valuable simply because it was rare and people believed in its value If another metal was found with better intrinsic properties than gold, it would still have value I believe the stage we're in with bitcoin is the same as gold once was before we actually found a practical industrial use for it as a metal
