Hi thank you for doing this test the way you did I just bought the buddy heater from Walmart yesterday and am using it in my 24ft toy hauler trailer of couse with a couple windows cracked open for ventilation Wow this little buddy heater works so great 8700 WELL WORTH IT Comment from : Paul Pasillas |
You are going to have water running down the inside of the tent walls Those heaters produce lots of water vapor Comment from : michael owens |
More importantly is your tent nice and toasty? Comment from : Chef Duane |
For future reference you need to use a filter when using a hose to connect to a large tank, or the oils in the hose end up inside the pores and eventually ruin the buddy heater or cause it to combust poorly over time Comment from : EscapeTheRace |
Excellent worth the money Heats my office really well Comment from : Baber Solanki |
And your pilot flame jet must be serviced regularly so the flame is bright blue and sharp No 'yellow hat'! Comment from : Johnr Roberts |
I wouldn't do that in Vehicle ⚰️ Comment from : Chris A |
how well that that propane tank gauge work? did you get it wit the tank? Comment from : Dude Leo |
nothin like a good ole family carbon monoxide test Comment from : testing 123 |
You are over-venting it Seems the opening for the gas hose is enough Close off that top and keep the heat in That gas needs air to burn and it's next to the opening to outside Yeah that's enough fresh air Comment from : The Truth Never Told |
Use a SENSOR!! not a monitor Comment from : dundeeecroc |
it's a Catalytic reaction not technically burning just the pilot flame is burning Comment from : kenneth enriquez |
Carbon is heavy so it would be on the floor Comment from : TheTRUTHteller007 |
What were the outside/ inside tent temps? Comment from : Antik Adam |
You have to be careful using propane indoors especially if the tank is inside the house which is a no no but with the increase in power outages more people are using for emergency heat due to not much choice If your house is well insulated or any building you are using you may have issues There won't be carbo monoxide but the flame will remove oxygen from the air anything less than 18 oxygen is deadly I would worry if the oxygen is below 50 I have an old house and it's fairly drafty so I don't worry about it In a heavily insulated new home I would have concerns You can always open a window but that is a bit counter productive Comment from : monmixer |
Very good text that you did, i just wonder did you use filter ( they recommend that )for connecting to your outside tank, do we need to do that ? Comment from : PALANG NAR |
Carbon dioxide is also poisonous in higher concentration, so good ventilation is a must, You should monitor carbon dioxide too, for example 40,000 ppm is dangerous too life (it's a 4 of CO2 of total air) It would be interesting to test more parameters CO, CO2, Oxygen levels just for curiosity Comment from : Tomas Raf |
I question whether carbon monoxide is the only toxin to consider I mean, what is left of the propane after it is burned? Are there chemicals added to propane, and if so, what happens to them when they are burned? They can't simply vanish They have to go out into the air
br
brI would like to see a comparison between a propane heater and a propane stove Propane heaters burn red, and propane stoves burn blue Blue is hotter than red It seems to me that the hotter it burns, the more completely it burns
br
brA much better system would be a propane burner with a radiator and fan that can be vented outside It would be less efficient, but there would be no emissions That's how a built-in propane heating stove for a house works The walls of a house with a propane cooking stove become sticky with residue from the stove in a few months That can't be healthy to breathe in Houses with propane cooking stoves have a very distinctive propane smell For these reasons, most people with houses powered by propane do not use the propane cooking stove to heat their house
br
brFinally, propane in a larger refillable tank is much cheaper than propane in those little green bottles Comment from : David Moore |
Thanks for the help is with the propane tank outside and the heater inside You might want to get a filter between the propane hose and the tank Comment from : Donovan W |
Do you know what the temperature was inside the tent? I have the exact same one Comment from : Mike Chivy |
It's I have a Buddy heater it's not going to give out any carbon monoxide or anything it's because it's heating a ceramic plate I guess and it's not a flame I know it doesn't seem like there should be a difference but there is for some reason a flame will do that and you have to be very careful but a radiant heater every radiant heater I've ever tested never did that they're all the same they won't do it it's weird because they do burn propane but that's just the way it is it's one of the mysteries of life will never figure out Comment from : WillG |
How warm did it stay in the tent Comment from : Daniel Tomaske |
Do you have to be in front of it to stay warm or does it heat up the entire tent? What was the temperature inside? Comment from : Duke Kent |
You have mesh on top? Comment from : Willy Maven |
The gas rises with the heat drawing in cold clean air low that will stay low, thats why these sensors ate put on cielings, durr Comment from : truckee jp |
well he shut them up like BAM!!!! RIGHT IN THE KISSER! LOL! Comment from : Manifesto Manifesting |
You need to use a filter inline with your hose when using a large propane tank Comment from : Jizzy The Froggy |
What temperature was it outside? With the amount of snow, I'll guess it was well below 32° Follow up question, what was the temp inside the tent? Comment from : Ryan Chambers |
Do not purchase from Mr Heater They charge 2x as much as your local retailers Returns are made very difficult Horrible company with rude customer service $190 direct from Mr Heater, $90 from local retailers Comment from : Trim Table Talk |
Sorry to tell you my friend; but, your test was void every time you opened the tent door and let in fresh new air Enough said Comment from : Glenn Rivers |
how many have gas stoves, ovens in their homes? Comment from : Frank Matyus |
does carbon monoxide rise or fall in elevation when introduced to a confined area ? Comment from : Dana Horton |
Carbon Monoxide rises Comment from : Chad Pennington |
tents have ventilation through the roof under the rainfly so that probably did it Comment from : Derek K |
Carbon Monoxide is slighily lighter than air The air round us typically has an average molar mass of 288 Carbon monoxide has a molar mass of 280, making it just barely lighter than air The monitor should elevated somewhat Comment from : Gordon Brown |
2022 and this is our technology Almost dying of propane Every winter I hear of someone dying of it Comment from : Top Hat |
What was the temperature inside that tent and outside??? Comment from : John Zarn |
Just because you have a bigger tank doesn't mean it puts out more Gas lol it says on the box I have that it's compatible with 2 20 pound tanks as long as you don't have the heater hotter hotter it needs to be to heat the area your in your ok further more their is more ventilation in a tent than there is indoors typicly and it's an indoor heater lol carbon monoxide shouldn't be anymore of a concern in a tent than indoors Comment from : Tyson Titus |
When I go camping with my lady, we don’t need any heaters 😉 Comment from : FULLCIPHER |
CO rises Need to put your sensor at the top Comment from : David Waters |
Have you tried one of the new diesel heaters? Eliminates any concern of carbon monoxide or oxygen use b/c the unit stays outside You don't get the water vapor byproduct of burning propane, dry heat This may have already been suggested, but let's be honest, I'm not reading through 2k comments Happy Holidays! Comment from : 3 Sticks Outdoors |
Good information thank you Comment from : Htrain 19 |
And now you’re camping with Steve! Comment from : Dacia Project |
I wonder how warm it got in the tent Comment from : Pac Ric |
Watch for bears Comment from : Calm down and Relax |
The gas is consumed in the combustion The danger is lack of oxygen since the propane needs oxygen to burn Or if u had a gas leak into the tent Without ventilation the heater would burn up the oxygen and u die from lack of oxygen With ventilation u good Comment from : Farm Bear |
the meter is only good at it elevation in inches raise the meter to the top of the tent Comment from : Half Grass Gardener |
CO is produced by improper burning of fuel, you have no control over that!!!! This test may not read enough CO to set off alarm! Comment from : Piper042 |
Curious what the temp (F) was outside and what did the temp reach inside the tent? Comment from : Brian Hudson |
you have on low how warm in tent? Comment from : Maria Carrasquillo |
A little ventilation at both ends of the tent is all you need I’ve been using these since they came out Good heaters Comment from : DB COOPER |
I just bought one today I’m glad to see this video Thank you Comment from : Anthony Gonzalez |
Great video! Very useful! You know what was missing from this extremely comprehensive video with the C02 monitor for 16 hours? What the actual temperature was inside the tent using said heater with said ventilation Comment from : James Bickford |
Didn’t know you had a Tacoma Comment from : mercurials54 |
Millions of homes cook with gas/propane, in the winter, with all windows closed The Mr buddy uses a fraction of what a stove/oven burns Just food for thought Comment from : joeashbubemma |
How about Carbon Dioxide levels? Comment from : Stealther |
We watched your video recently I know it’s an older video but we were just wondering if the smaller buddy heater that puts out 4 to 9000 BTU would be good for our 10 x 10 tent Comment from : ATLAS -X |
My question is how warm is it?? Comment from : Arnona cha Israel |
CO is lighter than air so shouldn't the sensor be off the ground? Comment from : Robert Johnston |
That food looks good Good test, thanks Comment from : ORESTINO |
I was told we couldn’t use lpg gas in a propane heater we have the same set up as you is this true cheers from New Zealand 🇳🇿 Comment from : Che Morgan |
