Personally, I'm more of a quarter hoarder, and to an extent a dime hoarder, since I like seeing large numbers in the world of money, but I can understand wanting to hoard Pennies and Nickels for stuff like Metal

I have a couple of Ideas Since no one is using the half dollar or the $1 coins, melt them down We are spending billions minting and just storing them in warehouses because of the laws mandating the how many have to be minted each yearbrSecond, stop minting the 1¢ coin as Canada has It is working for them Redesign all the coins that start small to large Our coin sizes were designed to reflect the value of the silver Welcome to the 21st century Next drop the $1 and $2 bills When redesigning the coin sizes include a $1 and $2 coins It works for Canada Whatever metal composition the mint decides to use to save on copper and nickel, use it for all denominations

I simply don’t understand this Right now a US nickel is worth 5 cents You can’t melt them down Why on earth would anyone for any reason pay you anything over 5 cents for an average nickel? You can go to the bank and purchase as many nickels as you like for face value Show me a legitimate website that buys regular nickels for more than 5 cents Also account for cost of shipping

Why the obsession so many people have with melting coins? What is the supposed advantage? IMO, it is an unnecessary expense, not to mention being destructive to a finite commodity Just as common date circulated 90 Ag coins sell for more than face value, so do Cu Cents, TODAY, in coin form The only reason there's no market for Nickels (yet) is that they're still being minted

This makes zero sense If you think the price of oil is going to go up, you don't go out and buy a barrel of oil and keep it in your basement Nickel is no different I you think the value of a commodity is going to go up in valuebuy a stock a Nickel ETF in your brokerage account Its easy fast and inexpensive When you want to get rid of the investment it takes a few clicks to sell the ETF Hoarding the actual commodity is time consuming, expensive and highly inefficient

I've got a strange question I live in Oregon and had heard from several people here and other states that it is difficult to get a box of nickels from a bank Most will only sell a couple of rolls at a time at most I don't know if this is true or not as I went to my bank and was able to purchase a box of nickels todaybrbrMy main question now is, would it be possible for me to sell this sealed box of nickels at a profit? I'm not saying that I necessarily want to right now, but would consider it Or would I just come off as a total jerk? Thanks for your video Question: When we sell old junk silver to a coin dealer, who in turn sells it to a bigger dealer, who in turn sells it to those who sell it to the mint for melting, the process is considered legal Why can't this same process be viewed as legal for nickel and copper in old coins?? We never had a coin shortage It costs 016 to mint a penny Which costs more to produce Nickels as well The dollar is just paper no residual value But coins do have value so that’s why they want it out of circulation

So the law is 31 CFR 821 However you did not mention 822 It states the rules in 821 “shall not apply to the treatment of these coins for educational, amusement, novelty, jewelry, and similar purposes as long as the volumes treated and the nature of the treatment makes it clear that such treatment is not intended as a means by which to profit solely from the value of the metal content of the coins”brbrIf you are keeping the metal in your possession it’s fine according to this Now if we are at the point of paying for things using precious metals I don’t think the federal government would be in a position to care at that point
