The one thing I really wish I had known at the start was how good an idea it is to clear-cut every tree within sight of your base Enemies and hunting are so much easier to handle when there's no cover

Here is one great tip: Berry BoxingbrbrIf you intend to gut down trees near berries, make sure to box them in in neat little boxes made out of walls and flor as roof in order to protect them from falling trees Just deconstruct once the trees have been cut down

Not sure if the "death point" tip is still like this, as in my world I had about 3-4 death markers on my map, each being the skull and bones with the day I died (day 15, another saying day 23 so on, so forth)

I don't know if that's normal or if I'm just bad at the game but I'm 40 hours in and after defeating Eikthyr the game hit a difficulty spike Sailing became dreadful Apart from the starting island I got very hard biomes on most island Like the elder location was right between a swamp and plains So simply going there was difficult due to deathsquitos but I did it Now bonemass is obviously in a swamp but his island is mostly surrounded by plains and mistlands So yeah, the first 15 or so hours were pretty cool while building a base and exploring black forest, everything after that is just grinding Dark souls is fun and easy in comparison

Just use initials to mark common resources on the map Otherwise it gets tedious and the map gets very cluttered brI use CU for copper, BB for Blueberries, M for Mushroom, etc

I would just add that when sailing the coast of two biomes, the Black Forest and The Plains, watch out for other navigation issues The Black Forest tends to have hidden rocks just under the surface of the water and the Plains tends to have hidden sandbars just under the surface and these can range out into "safe" deeper water

Better tip for boats: destroy it, pick up the mats to make it, in the event you cross an island and want to continue sailing from there Boats are transportable easily, just keep the slots open in your inventory

8:00 much safer, literally just bring 3-4 stacks of stone back through your portal, raise a 2-3 high earth barrier around your base and put a 2-3 high ditchworks around it Takes a few minutes longer, but is impenetrable to just about every mob except drakes Trolls will even have trouble

I prioritize armor over weapons The difference with weapons is mostly not big 2 swings and you're done But damage taken? Better armor helps a lot

I do usually mark on map all mushrooms, berries and metalsbrI also find that marking anything that can help me get my bearings with just the minimap, like abandoned buildings, runestones and other stuff like spawn points and caves is useful to me

I've been marking portals on the map with the portal symbol and naming it the same tag as the portal That way if a connection gets destroyed, I have a permanent marker of what everything is tagged as

Building a base in the swamp on a crypt is a good way for a setup I got several of theese on diffrent islands

A small tip using portal while exploring Dont tag it “new”, “explore” or whatever Dont tag it at all, leave it blank It will connect just as you build new portal and you dont have to remember the tag

A game-changing tip for me was that you can put a boat in your pocket Just beat the mast up til you destroy the boat and you'll instantly get all the mats back as long as you have room in your inventory Even if you're not in the shallows Great for getting across land bridges, or just peace of mind knowing your boat isn't going to get humped to death by a boar while you're out exploring
