My second question is a bit harder to explain My slurry seems to have come our uneven and seeped through the tape Should it be layered on to produce a consistent layer throughout? Also, what is the purpose of the slurry? And how problematic is it that the cement slurry got underneath the tape onto the ball?

Those are great looking pots, but not very practical Plants that become root bound, or even slightly root bound would be a total PITA to get out with that small opening

Did you know that you could actually NOT put cement in the bottom & use them for planting The cement won't hurt plants It's only lime The larger pot would be a perfect tree container! There's a woman on YT that shows how she takes out the bottom of extra large terracotta pots for trees It's lovely and your pots would work perfectly for it, too!

The pots are beautiful but I would not use them to put live plants in them You would have to break the pot to transplant Rule of thumb if the hole is smaller than the pot sides the pot will have to be broken to get the plant out

This is the best video I've seen on making pots! I have a plant nursery in Waimanalo Hawaii called Sharon's Plants and have been looking through videos on pots for making container plantings These look better than the pots I brought in from Vietnam I am going to try to make some this weekend!
