Can we know what medschools he applied to ? Comment from : @sarahrojas2862 |
URM and disadvantaged is a huge difference Good work though Comment from : @krishnancom |
Man this guy is awesome! He's gonna be a great physician for sure Comment from : @leonardobarzi7010 |

Guy's solid They say the Nigerian immigrants do so well here, and he's definitely an example of one! Comment from : @laughter95 |

Awesome dude Comment from : @arlocourt5304 |
What school did he decide on? Comment from : @gretchenoglesbysubstitutes3504 |

He’s qualified to become a physician no doubt GPA good, MCAT satisfactory, his “low” sections aren’t a big deal But after advising premeds for nearly 20 years, I have long-learned that those who are underrepresented in medicine (particularly males) who ALSO have med school worthy stats and a strong resume, will have many interviews and acceptances Too many of our med schools do not have any or enough male UIMs, particularly not enough Native Americans or African American males I am not suggesting that unqualified are getting all these interviews/acceptances One AA male premedI was advising with strong stats/resume (513 - 38c - 375s) didn’t believe me when I said that he didn’t need to apply to 30 schools He ended up with 27 (27!!!) interview invites! 6 of those were to OOS public meds that accept few OOS Pared those 27 invites down to 10 and all 10 accepted him and all with generous financial aid/merit scholarships (many full tuition awards) Went to a top med school and is now a surgical resident in a top program Again, absolutely qualified, but to ignore that being UIM as being a significant reason as to the number of interview invites and acceptances is not telling the whole story Best wishes to this young man He’s going to become a great doctor! Comment from : @jlau5634 |

HALLELUJAH IM NEXT Comment from : @Kayla-qs8rh |
I think he nailed all these interviews partly due to his well written personal statements and his experiences and clinical exposure showing off who he is as a person Of course i think that his race & disadvantage story and unique experiences('walmart') does play a significant role in his current success Comment from : @stoneaaronstone |
this guy is from my county What a small world Comment from : @aa8903 |
Nice guy Clearly, has pushed HARD to succeed, which comes through on his application Good luck! Comment from : @wueskew169 |
A few things to note: Yes, he's black, and yes, it makes a significant difference But he also worked really hard, and submitted a good application He clearly wants to be a doctor, and will take it seriously Grades and scores don't mean as much as we tend to believe Comment from : @kmp8563 |
This man is what I aspire to be in my application cycle! Wish me luck for next year 😰😰 Comment from : @micaelaroyo4837 |
Ik why after watching the first second LOL Comment from : @ariusmaximilian8291 |

Do people honestly think that if admission into medical school was purely based on MCAT scores and GPA, that this would be better for patients overall? How many of those high MCAT and high GPAs will actually serve the areas that need it most? How many will go into those urban hospitals and serve a predominantly black or Hispanic community?brbrAnd let’s not forget the implicit bias already evident in our current medical system Look at the black maternal mortality for example Black mothers are 3x more likely to die after childbirth than their white counterparts Of course there are other factors that contribute to this, but historical context and access to pre and postnatal care play a factor Will filling med schools with high MCAT scorers fix this issue?brbrLastly, why do applicants who have higher stats but don’t get in always seem to think that applicants like this young man significantly reduced their chances of getting into med school? You do realize that black students make up around 5 of acceptance when you remove the HBCUs right? brbrIs affirmative action perfect? Far from it I believe socioeconomic status should be taken into account A black applicants with at least one parent who is a doctor is not disadvantaged compared to a poor white or poor Asian applicantbrbrBut let’s not reduce the achievements of this young man to just “it’s because he is black” We still know nothing about the schools he applied to, we know nothing about his letters of recommendations, we know nothing about his secondary essays, and we know nothing about his interviews To only focus on his MCAT and GPA and completely ignore the rest of his application and the stuff we didn’t see is just dumb brbrStop thinking high MCAT and high GPA means you deserve an interview or an acceptance Shitty doctors can have better stats too Comment from : @AdaezeSTL |

great job Comment from : @lalaramos7687 |
You seem so happy doing this episode Comment from : @lalaramos7687 |
It's the CHEMISTRY between you guys for me Comment from : @lalaramos7687 |
I don’t discount his very good grades, average-decent mcat, likeable personality, well done application, and overall hard work But there is no way an Asian gets in with that application, and to suggest that being from Nigeria doesn’t play a significant role is disingenuous Comment from : @strategic1710 |
Is applying in July already considered late? :( Comment from : @isabelle2422 |
Great personality, not a typical robot applicant) Comment from : @AbdulAli-ku9he |
This guy is very very good at dealing with people Comment from : @Ivy-qm5bq |
No need to go to a fancy school, just gotta get straight A’s at lower tier schools and you should be good!!! Comment from : @jtra3440 |
Of course he's black Affirmative action and black privilege must be nice, huh? Don't have to put in any work While white and asian people are the most competent but get rejections just for their ethnicity and skin color Libs are so racist, it's insane Comment from : @shoriyuken5829 |
Dude is the man! I’m happy for him Comment from : @user-vo6kj6cl6w |
I got 2 Nine is like out of this world good lord Comment from : @user-vo6kj6cl6w |
Decades past one of my 2 best buddies/med school classmates was a guy from Nigeria that already had an advanced degree and had been teaching pharmacology at a US medical school but was rejected as an applicant to the same school I recall shaking my head wondering how they deemed him good enough to teach their students but not good enough to become a student there We knew lots of super smart people from multiple countries, multiple walks of life that could not get in Comment from : @s96822 |
This future doc sounds like such a pleasant, good guy I wish him all the best Comment from : @kaleygregory2324 |
The racists in this comment section are so disgustinghe worked hard and is very personable which is why he got 9 acceptances, not bc of “affirmative action “, stop trying to downplay his success Comment from : @ijeomaokoro5720 |
How do you avoid the selling ? Comment from : @GG-yy4yx |
I kind of disagree with you a bit Ryan, I think the reason this student received so many interviews and acceptances was because he sold himself and applied medical schools 15 core competencies into his extra curricular activities Comment from : @cindyosei3691 |
bBlack/b Comment from : @value2887 |
I would like help with my application as well! How do I get in touch with you? Comment from : @edenpr1998 |
He had an average performance for a medical school matriculant Based on his stats, that is not why he got 9 med school acceptances Let's not sugar coat things- he got that many interviews because of his ethnicity Average African American matriculant stats for entering med school are generally 02 GPA lower and 8 MCAT points lower than their white and asian peers An asian with those stats, despite being a minority, would probably not get into med schoolbrbrNot trying to take anything away from this young man 37 and a 505 are things to be proud of Comment from : @emperormouse5487 |
Congratulations!!! 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬 Comment from : @estheradedeji08 |
How does it feel to be god’s favorite? Lol CONGRATULATIONS MAN! I don’t even know you and I’m so hella proud of you!! Comment from : @lizeth8276 |
So why is it that he needed to provide transcripts from Nigeria, a non US nor Canadian institution? Is that because he earned an entire Bachelors in NIgeria? I completed the first two years of my undergrad in Lebanon, but I have been told by the AAMC that they will only require a transcript from my current US institution that has already accepted my foreign transcript and transfer credits Comment from : @johnnajjar6347 |
Was kinda hoping we would get to see the school list at the end Comment from : @kirolosyoussef9654 |

Everyone of you here are awesome You didn't need my input but I must say it just so I can add to cortisol Level - I will still have to calm it down by having a cold shower after I break my Lent fast this evening after a long great day I have hadbrThank you very much and see you fellow brothers and sisters, including more inspiring moments like this one I had today watching this masterpiece Comment from : @MegaDonaldification |

I have learned what I never had the opportunity of doing on a cv from these two gents I can only blame myself more for not doing what I did today to see this channel and this video I am very much excited to run through my revision, plan a good research project to lean on further mix what I have learned to showcase a complex project including sharing my experiences and who I am as an individualbrFor the first time, I have learned so much form both the excellent interviewer and interviewee Both these gentlemen shared a a genuineness that makes Americans and English speaking countries alike, one of the most proficient cpintries to live in when one have there priorities right I am honoured and extremely grateful to have seen this beautybrI have just posted this piece to my Facebook and are also looking ahead to concentrate on my home studiesbrTheank you very much, and I hope to see a new episode with another strong hint of new peace and strength in the interviews, as normal My career goal is to learn from the best When I see one I know immediately what I can learn Learning without knowing how to join the edges of what I have learned is knowledge without an edge Knowledge without coupled edges is knowing the basics without complexities Personally, I feel knowledge is about the experiences along the journey to becoming an excellent candidate of moving from basics to advanced knowledge that cements the strength required to moving from suffering, endurance, character to hope At the end it reveals good mystery and a good story worth sharing and listening tobrThank you so much I learned lots and I look forward to the bright future starting with these seconds and minute - a consistent step by step approach without swaying Comment from : @MegaDonaldification |
It's counter productive to critique a extremely successful application and what you found wasn't helpful to it I feel we would have gotten more value with you actually dissecting the strengths of this application instead One of the more important questions missed here is how this person went about picking which schools to even apply to with a 505 Since he ended up with this many interviews and acceptances Reddit is full of 34gpa 518 mcat rejected from all schools Which is why I would have liked what this man did right highlighted more Keep it coming though I subbed Comment from : @simplysmmn |
This guy's extracurriculars are fantastic - no surprise that he did so well in this cycle! No doubt that he will be an awesome and compassionate physician some day Congratulations! Comment from : @abigailschulz6645 |

Hello DrGray, Thank you so much for this video I have a question, if I did not transfer credits from the foreign university, do I still need to get transcripts from foreign country? I have a bachelor of medicine degree, and master of science degree from overseas, and I got a bachelors of science degree in the states brThank you so much for all these videos Comment from : @aynurny |

Good job 👏🏽 Comment from : @alext7315 |

Can you explain more on how to convey the impact of an experience rather than the traits or qualities you gained from it? It is confusing to me because isn't "becoming more compassionate" (as he wrote in his application) an impact of the activity? Thanks!brbrAlso, congrats to this pre-med!!! Comment from : @zainabj9325 |
He is such an inspiration Yes o omo Naija Love to see it 😍 this is so encouraging Comment from : @israeliana |

I have a question regarding the disadvantaged essay, is this the place to bring up mental health issues? These issues did not necessarily affect my grades, but dealing with ADHD and depression had a large impact on my day to day life that I feel like really impacted my outlook on and relationship with the world Comment from : @piercethelauren2335 |
Congratulations bro You made it Comment from : @peter-tm4ex |

That's a lot of personal experiences and extracurriculars What advice do you have for someone who wants to apply this Summer but whose extracurriculars have been totally cut off since March and is just now getting back into volunteering My stats are a little better than the premed in this video Comment from : @fooni7400 |

Are there any technical or practical reasons why so many applicants submit the first week or so of June but not on the first day of June? From what I understand, the system opens in May and primaries can be officially sent to schools on June 1st That means you’re able to access the application system and put in all of your information ahead of time in May and just submit on the first of June, correct? I haven’t really seen any 6/1 or 6/2 submission dates on this channel it seems but tons between 6/5 - 6/10 Realistically, I’m sure it doesn’t make much of a difference, I’m just curious to know if there’s any particular reason Are you not able to start filling things out until 6/1?brbrWarm congrats to this student on all his hard-earned success this cycle Dr Gray, thank you for making these videos Comment from : @AB-fm7qh |
