Thanks for your video! Just wondering if the roots and rhizomes developed quicker propagating from the leaf vs the stem? In your opinion was one method better than the other? Comment from : Britany Quinonez |

I had a rescue plant from my building and I found one of these rhizomes in the soil of a different kind of plant I had no idea what it was, so I planted it in a small Tera cotta pot and months later it finally started to grow, it took a while and I only recently figured out it was one of these zz plants So glad I took my time With the little random potato I found in that plant Too little to propagate but nice to know I can Thanks for the demo Comment from : Daniel R |

Brilliant thoughtful instruction Am about to propagate my raven I bought a few months and was looking for someone who the hadperfect amount of experience and know how to help me do it Thanks so much Comment from : Kb Drake |
This is EXACTLY the video I needed! Thank you so much! I have had a ZZ failing all summer, I had repotted it in June, but I believe now, after watching your tutorial that I planted the rhizomes too deeply into the pot I will try again with succulent soil and way more patience Also, could you possibly comment on how much light you provide during propagation? Thanks again 🙏🏼😎 Comment from : Sandra H |
Now that you mostly propagate in perlite have you tried some zz plants? I propagated a zz in water and unfortunately it turned yellow and looked dead before any substantial root growth And that was after several months in water I might have needed to give them brighter light But anyways Wondering if your love of perlite propagation has translated to zz’s since this video though Just got a raven cutting and want to do it right Comment from : Eric Mott |

Fascinating! Comment from : Kabreon Allen |

Hello - thanks so much for the VERY informative video - quick question, after you take the cuttings and put them in water, what type of light did you keep them in, and is there any type of light you should avoid, eg full sun, etc Comment from : Peg Lenga |
I love your videos, so cute! love love love Comment from : Pierce Heart |
my ZZ stem in water for 3 months now and nothing, I start to lose patience lol I went to Lowe's CanadaOntario, and to my surprise there is baltic blue potho in stock already, but I did not get it 😊(not blue enough to my liking and it looks a lot bigger plant than Cebu blue it will be too) Comment from : Suet Yan |
I rescued my ZZ from a house being evicted and everything thrown out a couple of the stems are wrinkled though and starting to droop Can I propagate from these or would you say leaf-cutting be best? The leaves are starting to yellow but I think only because not getting as much light anymore Comment from : Anna Bristow |
Great info Now I know what to do with my cutting’s Thank you dear! Comment from : Yoly Rom |
Watching this because some stem cuttings I started in soil started to rot I'm going to cut them up and put them in water I think brbrI have two other surviving stem cuttings and this is what I've noticed: brbrThe one I put in water right away has the longest roots/the most roots brbrThe one (surviving) stem in soil has veeeery short roots BUT already has a rhizome forming!brbrAnd you are right about these being slow! It's been two months and I've only started to see this growth now Can't wait to see what happens to them in a few more months :) Comment from : forumaura43 |
Mine isn’t really growing but I think it’s because it’s either too cold or not enough sun : o Comment from : motherdreamy°• |

I have had a cutting in a pot for at least a year now and it has roots but no new growth yet Comment from : Crystal Akers |
Can you use a rooting hormone on the ZZ? Comment from : Anne Wright |
Thanks for the video I had a ZZ plant on my porch during the summer that was knocked over during a storm I repotted it in a pons mixture and it’s doing well But I notice you mentioned the rhizome should be just under medium But I know I put the plant in about the half point of the pot Does it matter? Also I put in water some of the stems that didn’t survive the fall And like you said it took forever for the roots to grow Wish I could add a pic but I’m not that savvy with You tube Thanks again Comment from : Kim K |
I've wanted a zz plant for a long time and finally got one with a jade plant the zz plant looks awesome even has some new growth poking through but the jade is dropping leaves left and right! I've been binging your videos to learn how to care for them One question, I read zz plants are poisonous to touch so I have it high up away from my kids and dog and only wear gloves to touch it but I see you can touch your just fine? Does it not make you itchy or give you a rash? Still keeping away from kids but I don't want to grab some gloves every time I need to touch my new Lil zz! Comment from : Dee Hermione |
I propagate my Raven and regular zz this summer using both methods you use they are doing goodHappy growing and stay safe Comment from : Tameka Hill |
Last year about this time I purchased a leaflet cutting of a variegated ZZ It had a rhizome and a small number of roots--in short very much like those in your video here Just this week, I see it's finally putting up a new leaf I'm both overjoyed to get growth and relieved I haven't killed it A year seems like a long time for a cutting already rooted when I got it and I just wondered what your experience is with respect to timing (When I bought it, the seller gave me a four-leaflet Raven ZZ leaf cutting as a nice little premium and while it looks fine, it has yet to actually do anything, at least above ground) Comment from : Rob Parsons |
Just a picky bit of terminology here--there are no stems on a ZZ Plant (other than underground rhizomes) The first cutting you show in the video is actually a leaf The others you call "single leaves" are leaflets--think of a compound leaf, like on an ash tree OK, the pedant will shut up now ;) Comment from : Rob Parsons |
Hello, Your videos are always so informative Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us Comment from : Carol Clover |

When doing leaf cuttings, if you want/need a portion of the stem, why not just cut each with a small chunk of stem, similar to pothos or philodendron? Comment from : Wildepix |
My ZZ was in a 4in pot & the rhizomes ( which I wasn't familiar with the name until now lol) was showing thru so I repotted it a month ago Interesting to hear ur ZZ growing now because my sanseviiera seem to grow only when cooler weather is upon us Its amazing how much growth in just wks I only been into plants for 2 yrs now & ur channel helps my learning of these remarkable, amazing beauties Nature is really amazing to me Thank U Comment from : Dorothy Mcintosh - Sims |

Perfect timing, as a friend is giving me a ZZ cutting this week She will be trimming her overgrown plant and planned to throw the branch away! Noooo! I will rescue it and experiment with the cuttings Comment from : Rachel Miller |
Were the single leaf and little stem/leaf cuttings all started at the same time? If so, I find it interesting that the single leaves did more rooting vs the leaf/stem cuttings that made the rhizomes! How long did it take for the leaves to get that amount of roots? Comment from : Rebecca Ulmer |
Thank you so much for the shout out!❤🌿Your ZZ plants are adorable! Great video as always!🌱🌱🌱 Comment from : Annas Violets |
