Well you shouldn't have had to apply for a separate Discover it card After 6 months of good credit behavior, it should've "graduated" into a regular Discover It card with all the same benefits You also didn't mention that they'll send you your deposit back for said secured Discover card after it graduates Most people do the $200 option so you get your $200 back in 6 months plus a credit score and a new credit line around $1000

Watch out with auto pay though in the earlier years Wells Fargo and Bank of America were ripping people off I have over 25 accounts and still do not use autopay except for 2 or 3 accounts

I got lucky with some life decisions I didn’t care about credit had an old school mentality cash is king that my family from down south of the border were accustomed to And what built my credit was buying a inexpensive used car from a used car dealership when I say inexpensive I mean inexpensive it probably came out to be 5-6k after interest car was being sold for 5k Now to make things worse I even pulled out a loan to use as a down payment which was like 1k I struggled but I paid it all off and in doing so my credit has been great I am never late on a payment I don’t recommend doing what I did tho I was broke and did it anyways lived paycheck to paycheck For a bit

Credit mix is helpful too My score was decent for a while(750 plus), but the problem with my credit report was that it was all revolving accounts Now that I have an auto loan, my credit shot up even more since I'm showing both revolving and installment accounts

I got this and in 5 days they gave me a credit score of 689, wth! I did not buy anything or do anything sp that sucked Also, their autopay sucks You pay and it takes forever to post The transactions are always stuck in pending so you can't pay them off I'd rather use debit but need to have some score just in case

Credit karma isn’t a good example I personally use Experian Companies look at fico scores not vintage scores CK could be 50 points off your actual score vs Experian be 10 points

Those are 30 VantageScores shown in the background which can be as high as a 70 point difference from a FICO score Not to mention most creditors don’t even use VantageScores 😒
