It's better to hold it Doing this will actually cause slag inclusions because you need to change the angle on ur rod sometimes to ensure ur puddle isn't deeply penetrated

i have done this with 7024 jet rods in the 70s 500 amps 1/4 inch rods by what i remember weld i beam stiffeners to 3/4 inch plate for a square tank that goes to a wast water plant in Saudi Arabia i only did it once in a while just to show off marlboro new jersey
