Most of us who are in the military and ending our pilot careers wish we would have done it the civilian way While its been a priveledge and weve had some adventures, most of our souls have been crushed these last 5 years Its a 13ish year contract usually

The advice applies more to structure and routine than to actual flight training Part 61 schools will allow you to be prepared to finsh necessary training in a matter of months instead of years for the disciplined and self motivated

Been in almost 9 years trying to be a pilot in the active duty military 100 flight hours, Masters, PRK, passing officer test scores, good appraisals, awards, and still no entry into any type of aviation Granted, I did get picked up to be an IT officer for which I’m grateful for However, often times the military doesn’t give you what you want or think you deserve It gives you what it wants you to have

If you’re a pilot and you want to join the military a little piece of advice: try the reserves or guard That way you can fly for whatever airline and take some time off a couple days a month flying whatever military aircraft I do not recommend active duty military flying because you don’t fly that often When you’re in the reserves or guard, you have to keep flying a couple days a month to stay proficient on your airframe, all the while making a good living flying in the airlines
