thats true, being in secondlife 3 times a day as I am because of southern hemisphere timezones being different to American timezones is a choice I make, like a t-shirt i saw recently says, i choose to be a gamer girl because real life is boring, or something to that effect, i love secondlife and being a Hostess in secondlife, i never know who i will be saying hello or welcome to next or in what language ( so i have a list of other language words and how its written in other language for welcome, like nanmeste, hola,,) my interest in learning other languages has come about since i started secondlife because i meet so many people from so many different countries in secondlife,and i am a talker,so i hostess

I noticed the comparison between SL users and Metaverse users It seemed very strange, considering that Meta counts everyone on FB and all the other platforms it owns This article / video article lumps FB, instagram etc users in with people who are just on SL It is sloppy journalism at bestbrInterestingly enough, it took me just a few seconds to find out the graphics shown in the video are not the standard in SL Again, very sloppy journalism

I jave been a Second Life user for over 15 year now I have to disagree with the statement that is can be hard to find people in interact with in 3:11 Second life still has a large population If you can't find people to socialize with, your doing something wrong

this is so slanted in favor of the big boxes (meta, etc) - except for allowing Phillip to speak, it shows really old stuff and old avatars and doesn't give any sense of the present experience Yes there is a longish learning curveit's a world and you're like a baby when you startlearning to walk and talk But it can be shortened by using the mentors available and the "gateways" Friends can and do help Look on the Calendar of events once you're comfortable with controlling your avatar and take your pick - go to an event that interests you and you'll find people who like the same stuff If you can't control your avatar yetsit on a chair or pillow til you feel comfortable Or click on a dance machine and dance until you feel ready to walk around There's a niche for everybody and if by some miracle there isn't, with some patience you can build your own There are classes that teach you how to do that We're teaching design and international relations and sustainable planning classes from all over the world Musicians (original and creative) flock to SL to find an audience or just play for the love of it They thrive or at least add to their income a bit on donations from their fans Art, made in and out of SL, is flourishing We experiment constantly because we can We build this world together We make it be what we want it to be It improves with every version It's not about exploiting its users, as Zuckerberg's vision is You can meet your real life friends who live far away now and go dancing or shopping together again You make new friends and sometimes you get to meet them in your First Life and become friends in both worlds As one person put it "When we were little we lived in the real world and had imaginary friends Now we live in an imaginary world and make real friends"

I really enjoy sl I have been in sl since 2007 Meta NOPE! SL has more detailed and nicer characters tha any other world like it And truly no other world is like it I enjoy making videos about SL and sharing tutorials and helpful tips and hints and see others in SL making youtube videos as well, so we have an Sl community in youtube as well :) I like the forum on sl too so if I have questions I can ask, share pictures, and other things A lot of people who are disabled, isolated and other things, even people with tons of family and friends come to sl with them or without them :) I really enjoy it I have a linden home :) I like the idea of how you move your hands when you talk and yes No vr, one I am visually impaired, 2 I don't like vr 3 I don't know what is in vr :o I don't trust it :) I'm glad SL is still here :)

No one uses the Linden Lab/SL viewer! There are a number of better viewers such as Firestorm (most popular) that are much easier to use

The main drawback to new users is the limitations of their computer While it advertises itself as NOT a game, it still takes a higher end computer requiring at least a low end graphic's card Going to a new region with a lot of people can cement you to the spot, waiting for your computer to render your environment before you can interact Too, the lack of tutorials makes a new user rely on other residents for help While fostering interaction, a lot of older residents look on "noob's" like the French look at tourists - down their nose

I think Rosedale is wrong I created my first avatar in 2006, lost her and created my current avatar in 2009 A friend of mine started building a city in 2008, that is still in SL I have waited all these years to be able to walk through her city in vr Meta Horizon is ok but it does not compare to the detail world people have put into SL I hope he rethinks vr because it is a totally different experience than just interacting with a flat screen

The mistake made by SecondLife is they didn't enable SL land holders to create fun enough games Every location in SecondLife feels like a chat client with different paint There's plenty of other issues, but I don't think they were big enough to stop usage in 2010 Nowadays it's a bit of an eyesore and the assets transfer painfully slow even on gigabit internet They were getting closer with Sansar until it got hyper fixated on virtual concerts

When comparing Second Life's 1 Million users to Meta's userbase it was pretty unfair A lot of people have a facebook and an instagram, sometimes more than one, and of those I would guess barely even 10 will ever so much as try their metaverse It's apple's and oranges when comparing the user numbers

I have been a Secondlifer since 2007 and have seen it grown and evolve to what it is now and is still evolving with animesh items now During these years, I have visited other open sim grids such as Inworldz before it disbanded, to other grids such as Great Canadian Grid, etc Each grid though never held my fancy like Secondllife did Secondlife just kept evolving and growing to make it better for gamers that choose that grid to game on a lot more than the other open sim grids that some eventually died off and are no longer around
