Best advice I’ve ever received: BUY ONCE, CRY ONCE This means get what you want (within reason) the first time You won’t have to upgrade if you spend a little more the first time Comment from : @robburton3255 |
Doing your own mechanical work can also save you tons of money The amount of people I see bringing their bike to the lbs to repair simple things like gear cable adjustments or even punctures is mind blowing Comment from : @matt_m126 |

Cycling is as cheap or expensive as you make it I commute on an old claud butler hybrid I bought from a local auction for £26, in a £15 jersey and £10 shorts It’s been perfect, everything works and it even had new mtb stem and handlebars, as well as a pair of new schwalbe marathon plus tyres Had a fantastic ride both ways today Comment from : @PhilOsGarage |

I would suggest learning how you maintain/repair your bikebr- change the inner tube/tires by yourselfbr- check and pump up to the correct pressure before the ridebr- prepare spare inner tubes and a mini pump for your adventure br- learn to replace cablesbr- listen to your bike when riding Strange, new sounds spell troublebrThere are constant sales for everything, from parts, accessories, clothing, and even helmets and shoes brI built my bike myself, learning and saving big on my way! brbrbrbrbr- Comment from : @gerhardw933 |
„positioning is key“ Buy at the right time At the end of the season you can get things like helmets a LOT cheaper Comment from : @chrisridesbicycles |

GCN’s first tip for saving money? Buy a new bike 🤦♂️ Comment from : @MrSJR39 |
Here in the States, old bikes can be had for pennies on the dollar and are often barely used As a side benefit replacement components may be cheaper as well as long as they're not so out-of-date as to have fallen out of stock Comment from : @BixbyConsequence |
Tip 10: Rim Brakes :D Comment from : @benjaminmuller5261 |
Yeah invest in a TSB personal account, try running a yts scheme/study hard get a descent job, stop complaining, start doing and have less worries Leave the £10k Treks to old men and people with no children or investment bankers Comment from : @woodee8948 |

Ebay and clearance stock My fast bike is built entirely on ebay gambits and stock that was getting cleared out The result is a Tarmac S-Works SL5 running Ultegra 6800 and deep section wheels for just under £2k Comment from : @thelonesculler |
Re buying an all-rounder bike that can take wider tyres - also check the maximum width it can take with mudguards Mine can take 32mm without but only 25mm with, which is a bit annoying in winter Comment from : @Under_Ice |
i need a helmet that holds my sunglasses like manon! so cool i’m inspired Comment from : @cameronyny |
Buy used Especially if you are handy A quality bike several yrs old and collecting dust can be had for half the price or less Spend a bit of time getting it lubed up and some fresh tires and you are way ahead of the game Unless you are an age group winner with a stopwatch, you won't notice the performance difference brAlso upgrading wheels and tires on a quality used bike gains a big performance jump An upgraded frame only saves you a pound or two Again normal people won't notice the weight, especially if you have a few to lose yourself 8-) brPS Did a tri last weekend and racked up next to a 50 ish guy with a 15 yr old Ridley, no upgrades He won his age group Quality used bikes still perform on high levels You can save money for coaching Comment from : @PapaPaul723 |
I just give my bike to my LBS and tell the owner: Do whatever is necessary! Comment from : @cyclingxventures |

Don't be cheap and buy the best bike that fits you best and you can afford the first time around Bikes depreciate fast Upgrading components individually at a later time will cost way more than buying a good complete bike from the get go Buy stuff off-season when on sale End of August is when new model bikes are announced and old ones go on sale Better yet buy barely used bikes I scored a $10K 22lbs full carbon XTR MTB Santa Cruz with reserve wheels for $4K Buy extra tires, tubes, chain, cassette, pads any other wear&tear items on sale Be one step behind the latest 12 spd 13 spd etc That 10 or 11spd on sale does the same job and maor disount and shifts better Just scored some new MTB shoes 50 off and looking to buy spare tires and chains for next season Comment from : @tekink8143 |
check your brake and shift cables too Particularly the rear derailleur cable They get frayed, or break, you could be calling for a ride home Comment from : @CarlForde |
Or go Walking it's very cheap and relaxing Comment from : @mb10kx |
Manon 👶🏻? Comment from : @samteenoise |
Tip number 1: Sell you bike and get into running Comment from : @wohololao |
Ebay? Just know what your looking for Comment from : @reecedawson6113 |
IT'S SIMPLE: Buy used, don't buy cycling specific nutrition, don't buy cycling specific clothing, don't pay to race(or pay the winner), don't take airplanes and use hotels to go on "epic" rides If you want to not spend money but want the same experience as someone who does you should get real, some people actually work and sacrifice for what they have not just tack it on top like you think Comment from : @willjones7132 |
Only one of these tips really make sense: Take care of your chain Failure to do this can be quite expensive A new chain costs anout USD 50, a new cassette about USD 150 You don't need to wax your chain, but you need to keep it clean and lubed Replace when worn (and you don't need a 50 USD chain checker, a 99 cent wooden or steel, one foot ruler will do) Keeping up on chain maintenance will save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars, Euros, or Pounds Also, keep up on the other side, brakes will save money too Comment from : @jamesmckenzie3532 |
One way to save money, is instead of paying through the nose to enter Grand Fondos, find clubs that put on old fashioned "Century" rides In the US, Fondos cost over $100, while "Century" rides cost $25 to $30 (Not sure if they still have them in the UK) Both supply food and water rest stops, but Century rides are not Timed "events" (You "time" yourself)brAnother way to "save" money, is to buy used gear from people you know Comment from : @billkallas1762 |
Had a guy in the LBS try and sell me a set of the new GP5000 AS tires when I was replacing my tires last week And I was like I think I’ll stick with the older GP 4 seasons tire and save the extra 60 quid Comment from : @ndennan67 |
Clean and lubed chain, a good chain wear indicator (not parktool) change it as it starts to stretch I get 3-4 chains per cassette Comment from : @larryob976 |
Well, in the case of chain I found out that financially its better for me to change chain with a cassette at the same time once a year Like really I ride 7-8 000 km per year on my trek bike last 3 years and in the meantime I should change my chain at least 4, better 5 times per year But If I sum the price of these 5 chains, it actually cost more than just one chain and one cassette :D So I am changing these just once per year and I have no problem what so ever (financially and not even mechanical- technical problems) Although my chain is quite stretched after these months and thousands of kilometres of riding, chain haven´t been dropping or snapping for 2 years, So I have not problem with that :) Comment from : @jirinavratil6232 |
Buy a 2nd hand rim brake bike! Comment from : @montrose252 |
don't buy anything of the constantly promoted products on gcn Comment from : @benx7446 |

Top tips from all different aspects of cycling to consider I’d say I do most of these when I can :) Comment from : @goodcompanycoffee |
Another money saving tip; save your ride food for during the ride, Connor! Comment from : @matt_acton-varian |
Own nutrition - that is a HUGE money saver Even Fig Newtons, or supermarket brand breakfast carb/sugar bars are huge money savers compared to "made for the bike" Comment from : @graemejwsmith |
Connor, I am 204 m , 135kilos…what is a good budget model for big guys? Comment from : @davidroberts6766 |
Definitely agree with, winter kit in summer sales, summer kit in the winter Great video, homemade food a la Conor looked tasty, shame about those with the green eyed monster, if you can afford a fancy pants bike and you have a good job, buy the fancy pants bike, if your friend turned up on a Pinarello would you stop cycling with them and ignore any of their advice? Lovely to have Manon back with us 🤩🤩 Comment from : @238949 |
I like cycling❤ Comment from : @playchess24 |
I absolutely love how you guys are supporting bikepacking Comment from : @KiranMachiraju |
Highly recommend buying a bike secondhand New bikes are ridiculously expensive and not superior to older models IMO Comment from : @rachelvasquez7826 |
I think a major way to save lots of money in the long run is to become your own bike mechanic If you can fix anything and everything on your bike, you will never need to pay another person for it Tools are expensive, yes But a surprising amount of maintenance can be performed with a set of hex keys and maybe some torx bits And those obviously have applications beyond just bicycle maintenance Plus, many of the more specific tools cost as much as paying a bike shop to use them once or maybe twicebrbrObviously I don't think bike mechanics shouldn't ever have customers but often doing things yourself will save astronomical amounts of money It's like cooking You should really do it yourself most of the time Relatively few can afford to eat out every day Comment from : @zeemon9623 |
This seems to have been made for professional cyclists that are competing full-timebrFor the rest of the world, buy used and do all of your own maintenancebrBuy one quality set of bibs Don't bring food Comment from : @marklanders630 |
Tip No1: get sponsored! Comment from : @pata_rick |
moneysaving tips when you have a pinarello LMAO Comment from : @cdcdcd6777 |
Very useful thank you Having had a couple of bike services that cost more (double) than a car service we have learned to check the chain, so much cheaper than a new cassette 😅 Comment from : @knitrundig4663 |
I'm just glad I'm not paying Conor's food bill, cos he never seems to stop eating 🤣 Comment from : @cruachan1191 |

Best advicedo not fall for the marketing shills who push "gravel cycles" just because someone "lends" them their top tier extravagantly priced cycle for their YouTube videos Comment from : @main_stream_media_is_dead |
Save by getting a "bikefit" at 300 £ ?? Or measure up a bike you know and feel comfortable with and transfer the measurements to a new bike? And maybe find a dealer with demo saddles to find a new/better onebrHow did people ever get out riding, before the bikefitting business was invented ? Comment from : @PoulHansenDK |

Alway LOVE the Celtic duo's bike tips Comment from : @bubblesezblonde |
Buy your winter kit in summer and vice virsa, it's usually heavily discounted Comment from : @russellspeight5175 |
Something I learned early on: buy cheap, buy twice If you really want to upgrade to something of better quality but is more expensive, just save the money until you are able to buy it Don't be tempted to buy something cheaper and use it for the meantime It won't be as fun, and it will cost you more Also, don't buy something with the assumption that you will be able to sell it later on Comment from : @babbleboyquito |
Cook with Conor 👍😁 Comment from : @leedorney |

Learn how to do your own repairs, patch your tubes, build your own wheels Buy tech that's a few generations older such as nine speed or 10 speed Fitness Trumps upgrades Comment from : @m4yd0g |
Keep your bike as clean as possible It can be a hassle to have to get into the habit of cleaning it after every ride but it'll help you save the pennies in the long run Comment from : @TheHaitian |
Spend on bibs, scrimp on jerseys Comment from : @whatwelearned |
A bit hypocritical of my experience, but I'm sure I'm not the worst - Trust what you have and use it to the utmost, instead of thinking that you need an expensive "marginal gain" piece of kit to improve your riding, and pinning all hope for a better experience only on the next parcel in the mailbrbrBling may not obviously be a primary motivation, but with the amount of cycle gear packaging I've gone through, it's still subconsciously, insidiously there Comment from : @miroslawkobus1491 |
With the cost of living really starting to bite, this type of content is so useful I will check out the training vids for sure Thanks Comment from : @madmick9205 |
