Differences between B ferox and B melanobullata: Melanobullata has dark bullae even on young leaves The bullae on ferox are lighter coloured initially and darken with age Ferox has ovate leaves and melanobullata has widely ovate to widely elliptical leaves Melanobullata has a single hair coming our of each bullae which eventually falls offbrbrCulture: I grow this plant out in the open in my grow room, not in a bin RH is 65 - 80 Temp is in high 70s I let it dry out half way between waterings I water 2x a week I use MSU fert at every watering B ferox is found on limestone cliffs in Southwestern China, especially in Guangxi similar to Paphiopedilum micranthum To mimic this I add Cal-Mag to each watering at the recommended dosage I grow it close to my T5 HO sunblaster lights - 4 inches away from two 4ft bulbs I grow this in a high porosity peat based pitting mix and add perlite, pumice and fine orchid bark to the mix About 2:1:1:1 There is more on potting mix in the potting Mix HighlightbrbrPropagation: leaf cuttings or rhizome divisions I take whole leaf cuttings or cut along the veins and place the cuttings vein-side down into the soil I first did this method with begonias in the course Plant Propagation at University of Guelph 24 years ago!
