Filtering of data can begin at the lens with band pass filters This is specially useful when detecting reflected laser light of a specific wavelength like in ranging applications Most cameras are fitted with IR filters (a band pass filter) and this can be omitted if you are indeed interested in the IR wavelengths as these may contain useful data A multiple camera setup with different sensors/band pass filters would increase the accuracy of your identification by physically separating different data on the way into your systembrI'm no expert on programming so I don't know if I make any sense here, but I know physics and there is definitely ways in which you can reduce the amount of data you have to deal with by just constraining what you get into the sensor itself In a laser ranging application, you would only be interested in the intensity of the pixel and the angle to your laser source (trigonometry) Comment from : Willy Tepes
