The aluminium is one electrode, and the carbon filter the other But the oxidizer is missing - in normal batteries that would be manganese dioxide, donating the oxygen (electrons), but here it's just the little bit of air trapped inside the carbon filter And, since the aluminium foil from such a can isn't thick at all compared to the zinc cup of a normal battery, it won't last too long

I just want to advise people to check what kind of batteries you are cutting open and to make sure you do NOT to cut open lithium batteries The batteries the guy cut open in the video were not lithium If you cut open a lithium battery, it will explode Please make sure you are not cutting open the wrong type of battery
