So, there's no way to reset SMC without having to reboot? I have a MacBookAir and I'm using a Sacheti adapter (certified by and purchased from Apple) that runs also HDMI to my Samsung monitor, reads my SDXC cards and has also USB that normally connects to an external drive After some hours, the adapter stops feeding the battery nor the Mac, so forcing you to reboot at some time because the battery empties After rebooting, the power adapter always restarts charging, so the steps in this video are actually not necessary in this situation All I have to do is reboot from time to time, though that's exactly what I want to avoid!

According to another video, the first one you do is for both the NVRAM and PRAM since all Macs have just either one or the other, and for the SMC is the second one you do, which is not what you said
