Which colour was your favourite? I'm loving Sage Green recently! Comment from : Daniel Titchener |
Love the design decisions and the final solutions, except the breakfast bar in the same space as the dinette Seems like duplication Comment from : Dyana Layng |
Beautiful, practical and making so much more sense Loved it, subscribed Comment from : Carolina Alves |
20 grand for a kitchen? Christ, that's a downpayment on an apartment Comment from : Jure Jerebic |
I love your videos and soon im getting married and i have a small space to turn to a small kitchen i tried ikea planner and im so out of ideas Need HELP!!!! Comment from : Hakem aldandashi |
Love this video Thinking of doing something similar to my home brbrOne issue that we have though is that one wall that used to have a sink that is now emptyfor us, we don't have a window there We could put a window there but it would cost more and we would have some potential privacy issues Any other thoughts on what you would do with this design if you didn't have the window there Comment from : Brandon L |
Why the separate microwave tho, instead of just getting an oven with microwave function? Comment from : Anna Ludwig |
The US does not use the imperial system Can make some pretty expensive mistakes that way Comment from : Winston Smith |
Great in theory, but you just cut out a lot of desperately needed storage Comment from : Xian Vox |
Any chance you can list all equivalent UK IKEA items required for island of kitchen plsbrBetter still, all items for this kitchen Thanks a million Comment from : Nikki Dr |
i wouldve put a big vertical island in the centre of the room to combine the island and the dining table into one, creating continuity between kitchen and dining this would also make the room walkable from all ends, instead of the corner being blocked off as it is with the current island Comment from : YUNAKINE |
Feels like a hospital wing Comment from : david Hutton |
It's worth mentioning: Moving plumbing becomes expensive With a baby coming, getting rid of the dishwasher is a terrible choice That fridge model will never sit flush with the wall, you only get that look with very expensive fridges with special articulating door hinges Separate cooktop and oven layouts, while much nicer looking, are NOT cheaper than an all in one slide in range appliance Straddling a double basin sink over the cabinet frame is an interesting decision that plumbers will hate Also washing awkwardly shaped cookware is way easier in one large deep single basin sink A clean design for sure, but not really fully considering the client's needs in this video Comment from : Taylor |
I share the corner cabinet hatred Maybe it's because my home had one, maybe it's years of playing the sims Comment from : Fobia Argyst |
Double sink is extremely inconvenient in the US Especially For a family of more than 2 Comment from : dodo 🦤 |
Can you help me with my kitchen design? Comment from : Mar McCown |
Love your videos; but white open concept kitchens are impractical Spend an hour cleaning up the kitchen, make a well deserved cup of coffee, and it needs to be cleaned again And if you don't clean it, you have to look at it Also, IKEA stuff looks good, but after 4-5 years the enamel will buckle especially under the sink I live in Sweden, all of the newer kitchen cabinets have this problem The EU has stricter rules for what chemicals can be used in manufacturing, so it maybe the non-EU cabinets hold up better The EU fridges made about 15 years ago had problems with the plastic cracking because BPA can't be used with anything that contacts food Comment from : shinnam |
How I wish you could come to my house to renovate my kitchen We love your ideas and work! 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻 Comment from : “Sympathique” |
Hi Daniel, I like your minimalist design with white modern cabinets We are in NYC May I know if you can remodel our kitchen? Thanks! Comment from : Jing Zhang |
Love the channel just discovered it So clever Thank you for sharing your talents Architecture has always seenmed mysterious to me Comment from : Rosie&Grace |
I absolutely love this We have the very similar layout and I was pretty much looking at whether we should remove the sink under the window but so many people said I should not do that! What is your thought on this? Please Comment from : Thao Tam Nguyen Dong |
Beautiful minimalist kitchen design, well done 👏 Comment from : Dener Patrocinio |
I’d love to know the cost for this Comment from : Terri |
Oh my gosh do my kitchen 😭 Comment from : Ashley Spicer |
Great designthe only change i would make is extend the island and have cabinets under the stools to compensate for the loss of the pantry storage Comment from : S K |
Living in Texas I have always been spoiled to be able to live in massive apartments and large homes I can’t even imagine living in places this small, but your designs so beautiful and functional!! Comment from : Lauren |
It looks pretty good But the storage of the pantry has gone, and when you place the electric oven, bread toaster, air fryer and the other electrodomestic appliances that appeared in the first photos You will have less working surface and it won't look so awesome Comment from : Eduardo Díaz |
What would you call his haircut? Comment from : dizzysEat |
Interesting illumination Aspects of industrial engineering Comment from : Adam Anthony |
Did you use up the whole budget? Comment from : N S |
You never want required plumbing or electrical (sink, stove, etc) in an island As families grow and change this gives zero ability for the kitchen to adapt with them It would have been better to put the sink, dishwasher and stove on the back wall and allow the bar and storage to be in a mobile island This way it could pushed out of the way when needed It simply makes the space more versatile Comment from : Vallyrah |
I like these redesigns Are you planning on doing any bathrooms? Comment from : Brandi Minor |
I love your ideas Daniel Why oh why do you say 'swap out' instead of just 'swap'? Comment from : Vinaka Queen |
That's not an island, that's a peninsula Comment from : harveythepooka |
Interesting to see this was the first working with a US kitchen Watching Daniel's first foray into country differences for kitchen design was fun He makes good points, I wonder how actual use differs from perceived designer use in regards to these sorts of culture differences Comment from : Shauday Smith |
For European standards this kitchen was enormous as it was Comment from : CyberOne |
Dump the microwave, food cooked in them cause cancer Comment from : Medical Freedom |
Hi Daniel, thanks for your content You have many interesting minimalist redesigns My question/suggestion refers to kitchens - you always include full-size ovens It would be interesting to hear/see your views on air friers - would you change an oven for one of those friers? pro-cons? Well, if you decide to dedicate a video to the subject, I'd be very grateful Cheers Comment from : Stephen Henry |
I think the microwave should stay over the cooktop working as an extractor as well Comment from : Ana Malle |
From a US architectin US kitchens, replumbing sinks, toilets and tubs could be prohibitively expensive, especially if there's a slab foundation with no basement Venting (extractor fan) can be done very easily and cheaply, through the attic The "bulkhead" is called a furr-down Usually it is used to run HV/AC (central heating and air con) ductwork into different rooms US homes have large refrigerators because most households grocery shop only once or twice a month A pantry isn't optional, especially to a family that cooks brAll your designs are creative and meticulous Comment from : TangentOmega |
A superb design, Daniel!! Comment from : TheJojo01902 |
We just moved into a duplex with an L-shaped layout for the kitchen, which it makes it so hard for my husband and I to cook together Especially because the dishwasher is in the corner If one of us is washing and placing dishes into the washer, the other person can't access any of the countertop or the pantry area Most of our storage space is in cupboards over head height, which make it tricky for us, who are both short It would be so nice, if we could just re-layout the kitchen like you did here, but we're just renting Comment from : Nicole Dyonashe |
The door swinging on the refrigerator the wrong can easily be switched and isn't a good reason to change it, that said, a new refrigerator is clearly part of the budget and looks great Comment from : Applied Advances |
Late to the video but one thing to think about is that those push in drawers are going to be impossible to child proof Comment from : Jeffrey Strickland |
I felt instant shame when he mentioned the metric system haha Comment from : JohnDoe |
Interesting to feature some of the differences between north American and UK kitchen designs brI wonder if you considered running the kitchen cabinets in the other direction? Would there have been enough space to have the counters under /between the windows with a table on the open side? brAlso, I am not a breakfast bar fan - do people really need two sitting spaces immediately adjacent to one another? Especially when the bar seating is near the splash and dirty dishes that are normally piled around the sink brI like the clean look of the finished product, but wonder home much storage was given up? Most of us have all our cupboards full, even if they are not easily accessible brAnd, sorry, screaming babies? Mine never did! Did you make any accommodation for high chair and baby supplies (bibs, toys, unbreakable cups and dishes) brPersonally, I think all the lower storage should be drawers I like the bin system, but I would need one for trash, one for compost, and likely two for recycling brI like the frig tucked away, but does it need airflow for the heat it gives off?brYou didn't say if you stayed on budget; did you? brIt would be nice to see an after shot of the actual kitchen following the renovation to see how they adapted your ideas to their space Comment from : j hutch |
Really enjoyed that video, thanks Comment from : 2A Avenue |
thanks for the edits nay god bless all who are in his hands Comment from : Batista Efraim |
I disagree with the sink design, as the double sink limits usage, and virtually any usage of the kitchen, including drying dishes in a rack, will set up an ugly barrier and mess up sight lines I like the refrigerator idea, but putting the microwave below seems to waste good storage areas Comment from : Kate Tsubata |
Which is that sleek cooktop range is? Grey colored Comment from : AlishatheVeterinaryDr |
It'd be amazing if you do toturial on sketchup and photoshop Comment from : birds |
He nailed it! Beautiful small kitchen that’s fully functionable as a regular one! Comment from : Clan Killas® Gaming! |
Try having the sink a little closer to the wallbrbrThat way if someone is washing dishes and someone is at the oven, they won't bump into each other Comment from : Peter Bui |
@1:40, too right we don't Never understood the concept of the over the cooker microwave Either have a built-in or worktop model @5:04, slot in cookers are horrid @5:46, not fake Shaker One big sink is better than two Overall, the redesigned kitchen was much better than the old Comment from : Eat the Rich |
Daniel, I agree with you about the over the counter microwave/hood combination not being very minimalist I found this product for people who like the minimalist look but still like the over-the-range microwave: wwwcostcoca/kitchenaid-11-cu-ft-black-stainless-steel-low-profile-over-the-range-microwave-hood-combination-500-cfmproduct100523533html Comment from : Steven E |
This is a great design, but as a passionate home cook I'd really like to make a case for valuing cupboard space It makes a huge difference if you're the kind of cook with an enormous pantry I have so many sauces/spices/dried goods etc because I cook across many cuisines (especially Asian, which you'll know uses a huge array of ingredients), and I always struggle to find flats with enough kitchen storage space to accommodate my collection Sleek designs like this are beautiful, but I wonder if there's a way to maintain storage space without compromising on aesthetics Comment from : yue |
The aesthetics have changed over the years, but this sort of cramped, inneficient before kitchen layout is such a common feature in low- to mid-end American homes For as large as our homes are compared to Europe, I often find builder-grade apartments and houses here in the US to have such a thoughtless layout and poor material choices They also tend to lean in way too hard to current aesthetic trends, making them age and look dated even 5-10 years after they are built Love the ideas here Probably because I am Americanit wouldn't have occured to me to take out the U-shape to the cabinet layout It's such a common feature in so many homes that I've lived in, or that people I knew had Comment from : Ryan Natividad |
If they go through with the rennovation, could we see the final product? I think thatd be cool Comment from : Kurt Penka |
Hello, what app do you use to design?? Comment from : Stefano Iacumin |
Daniel ! hope you see this using blender (with filmic blender) is probobly the best way to deal with the issues you have with rendering in sketchup I am aware that its a diferent software but I think it might be possible to import a file from sketchup to blender and render it there Comment from : Tim Goodliffe |
smart Comment from : jackpaice |
20k for a whole new kitchen and floor? And removing everithing? Comment from : wuts |
I think the kitchen redesign looks so good However personally I dislike the minimalist aesthetic I don't like kitchens that are all white (I know you can change the cabinets up and stuff) but I'd love to see stonework backsplash that adds character and pretty tile floors Like Spanish style tiles for example I can see how some people like this aesthetic, but it's not for me Comment from : LJ |
US over-the-range microwaves are recirculating; they do not exhaust air from the room It's pretty common over here for a kitchen to not have a proper exhaust Comment from : InuJF |
I'd love for you to redo my bathroom It's a weird space with a separate shower and tub and so much wasted space Comment from : MargaretPilot |
You should redesign exteriors as well you have a great eye for design Comment from : Zay Craig |
Fantastic redesign! It’s amazingly big to watch the process Thank you Daniel! Comment from : Tom W |
I have space for a butlers kitchen for noisy and messy cooking off the minimalist looking kitchen areabrDo you have thoughts on this layout? Comment from : Stephen Brickwood |
This is the kind of left field question only a UK architect works ask, but, my PII policy explicitly excludes me doing work in the USA Did you need to check with your PII provider before thanking this job on? Comment from : Real Life Architect |
I love how the chosen kettle is a Fellow EKG Very good kettle! Comment from : Victor Villas |
I wish we could see the reactions of the people who requested these renders etc Comment from : Young Wizzy |
the space is lovely and fonctionnal but kinda dead Comment from : oumayma messsaoud |
Just so you know ikea is the states is more expensive and made way cheaper They don’t have the same longevity Comment from : Lauren Arigo |
I’m just gonna go ahead and say it… I love it every time you do integrated IKEA kitchens I’m a gas stove cooker but other than that I’d hire you and I say that even though my husband is a contractor and still doesn’t get the minimalist look Comment from : Tynk Tynk |
Loving this series! I’m curious as to why not have the cabinets go all the way to the ceiling and remove the soffits? Comment from : Colin C |
"Making it how it always should've been to start with" 1:02 Comment from : hexlgaming |
Why do you make it all white in the name of minimalist? Comment from : PaksRose ū |
love it Comment from : Julee Ann Garcia |
Could you give us some minimalist tips when you have little kids? Your daugter was born soon after mine and I'm also expecting my 2nd daughter Would love to hear your take on it! Comment from : a a |
I know an architect who designs tiny Air B&B homes He said several have used IKEA cabinets and they work fine as long as you do not get them wet The garbage/recycling center will always wear out first Comment from : Jason Roets |
The all white version is just too dull and drab There is no character Comment from : dorfone |
I like this design, except for the under-counter microwave You did mention alternatives to that, but I really think the optimal location for microwaves and small ovens is over the countertop These are so frequently used while you wait, and that argues for something close to eye level, if at all possible Range ovens have pull-out racks and controls at counter height and that makes the under the counter location practical I Most microwaves lack pull out racks and you have to bend way down, or get on your knees, to set the controls on under-counter microwaves Comment from : Hey Boomer |
this series is crazy!!!! watched all ty to the yt algo for suggesting it looking forward to watch more of these 🥵🥵 Comment from : Unknown? |
Let's see the finished product Comment from : SJ |
Love your work! It’s so cool to be able to follow the whole process of your solution! 😊 Comment from : Nicole Polis |
love it all accept the lino over the hardwood floor and not trying to reuse or modify as much of the cabinetry as possible to save on waste Comment from : jacob rowe |
Hi, i have software technical questions Do you render this scene using vray for sketch up on macbook pro? I use windows and really considering macbook for my interior work Thanks for the great video Comment from : Dekoruang |
I lobe the look HOWEVER this kitchen is not practical at all There is zero storage A double sink is not as useful when a dishwasher is present, and the landing zone beside the sink is very small Also if you cook alot in the US you are going to need a much larger trash receptacle Comment from : Ian Gorton |
I didn't see it covered, but did he use the US cabinets? Ikea has a different range (and therefore dimensions) of kitchen cabinets in the US and Canada to the rest of the world Comment from : theducksorg |
Looked nicer before Comment from : Wandering homebody |
For Feng Shuisink can’t face to face to stove, it will bring bad energy to people who lives in there Yin and Yang condition Comment from : Selvi kuo |
Please make a course for this type of design make over, I’m happy to pay for it! Comment from : jake liu |
20,000 dollar budget would be enough to build a decent small house in the Philippines :) naol Comment from : Raine TM |
