I noticed that mine did it Just thought it was a safety thing to protect the machine I did notice that the needle wasn’t “0” so I fixed that Probably the easiest fix I’ve ever done to any machine Thanks

If zig-zagging, guess it doesn't matter if the needle assembly moves, or the dog moves the fabric?

I think many avid sewers have thought they've broken something at one point or another! Good news you didn't!brbrAs an aside, something I've wanted to ask since you started this Singer review series, is whether you might be trying any other modern HD machines for comparisonbrbrI needed a portable light-weight machine to complement my industrial machines, and after a lot of research, bought the Janome HD1000 which I have been very happy with It would be interesting to see your take / comparison of the Singer HD to the Janome HD1000brbrThanks for the content!

Do you know how they make the patterns apply to the needle position? Lots of machines these days use a stepper motor to move the needle back and forth instead of the old "guide off a cam" method from older machines brbrI have a husky and a baby lock here and both use a stepper motor to drive needle position You turn the machines on and you can see them calibrate the needle position as part of startup brbrMaybe internally it's not as mechanical as you think?

i remember it right the all the singer 4xx series have same behavior when needle bar goes right it is pushed but in the other direction it is pulled by a spring but not mechanically pulled and can be moved by a finger because the only thing holding it's the spring

I have a lightweight Brother computerised machine and it resets the needle position when you power it on I think it sends a pulse out to the needle bar and the feed bar to 'home' them on power upbrThanks for the Cat fishing video too

My Viking Sapphire does the same lateral needle bar move when it powers up Kind of like a hiccup to adjust the needle to center And you are not an idiot! We enjoy exploring and learning with you Thank you!

I went through the same thing with mine, Spent a whole day trying to fix it if i remember correctly i forgot to set the stitch width back to zero
