I have a theorySeeing as iroh was wise,humble and basically had or the characteristics that would make up an ideal avaterHe however didn't get to become an avater because there already was one during his lifetimeAang was literally frozen and still very much the avatar so his spirit couldn't pass on to the next who i suspect would have been iroh

To me personally Iroh is more than a fire bending master, he's a fire bending grand master He's not only a soldier and warrior but also a caring father figure, teacher, friend and great cook 😂 In his time many people never realized one factor Yes the fire nation caused turmoil throughout the world but it was a fire bending master that saved bait sing sae, it was a fire bending master that took over the throne not only to restore the fire nation but the whole world and it was a band of fire bending masters ( zuko, jeong jeong and Iroh) that played an important role in helping ending the 100 year war in order to help Aang and his friends restore world wide relationships The world had a lot to be great for all these three masters in general but Iroh was the main one of the three that started to show that not all fire benders are born evil Just like Roku was in his life

10:27 Although its was never Iroh’s fault, he did acknowledge that Ozai and Azulon did cause a lot of pain for Ursa Azulon force Ursa to marry Ozai because she was Avatar Roku’s granddaughter and thought the marriage between Ozai and Ursa will give him powerful firebending descendants He also insulted her home village Ozai treated her like a trophy wife: Not letting her see her parents again, treated her as she was his property, getting back at her for writting fake letters, banish her when she made a deal with on making a poison drink for Azulon so he can be fire lord

I think banishing Zuko was the best thing Ozai could have done to him This way he was raised by Irohs wisdom and honor instead of Ozais beliefs, which made Zuko and his daughter worthy Fire Lords The Fire Nation is a mighty force that needs to be guided with the utmost care, not wielded like an axebrbrAlso, one small correction: Iroh was infamous for his fire breath, but it wasn't a new ability he discovered Avatar Kyoshis first firebending move was breathing fire
