Are you in city limits? Are open flames illegal? Is there a burn ban? If not, go to town! Lots cheaper than the couple of thousand it costs to hire a stump remover

My mom would burn all the sticks and leaves she would rake up One of the neighbors would call the fire department every time So the fire department told her to have a hot dog on a stick when the come and she could continue to burn her little pile So that’s what she did they would come drive by and she would wave the hot dog at them and they would drive away never getting out the truck One way to beat the system and a nosy neighbor My mother was such a fun loving person I miss her dearly Rest in peace ma!brEdit:brI was burning a pile on my rural property and had let it burn out About three days later I put a box on the pile to burn at another time The next day I left the house to go grocery shopping The box was fine just sitting on the pile When I came back the box had burned and was smoldering Kind of scared me Glad I had the burn pile away from the woods and the house

You could have used chainsaw to cut it down further The wood could have been used for heating home or cooking Also, all the wood stumps could have been used for other purposes But all you did was pollute the environment for no reason

That's really a smart idea it seems like you were safe and careful and how you handled it and dealt with it probably save you some money from getting it grinded I know that's kind of expensive at least you took care of that tree so it don't ever grow back again and the roots cannot damage your soil and ground and kill your grass good idea

Happened to my parents once when I was a kid They were burning a brush pile The fire department showed up and said they needed a burn permit because of our property's close proximity to the railroad tracks

Law allows for three exemptions from having an illegal fire to making it a legal fire Exceptions are if it is a cooking fire, a ritual or ceremonial fire, or a fire to keep warm Just put a grill grate on the stump and have a plate of hot dogs set up next to the stump and they cant make you put it out Theyll just make note that its a cookfire and go away
