I took a cruise last year on Holland America Best thing on the boat was the house band, BB King's All Stars I've been playing bass for many years, and I've already played 90 of the song they performedbrNow I'm thinking about auditioning after I retire next year Started playing bass back in '68, I can read proficiently, played in Big Bands, Motown/Stax/Volt bands, Army bands for a few years, pit orchestrasbrI wonder if it's worth it? I did 1 contract as a photographer 10 years ago and as I'm thinking of making a video about all the horrible things that go on in this line of work I decided to first do a bit of research on what other crew members already shared on YT This doesn`t even touch on the really nasty things that go on below the deck 😬😟

You would have been better off to increase your skills and knowledge and get students instead! You would have made MORE MONEY and had a better lifestyle than a cruise ship could ever offer I taught the bowed strings and piano for 60 years in a metropolitan area and made enough to live on and was very happy doing that

A bass playing, singer buddy said his gig was bad Band lost a drummer fired for alcohol abuse and they picked up another drummer at next port, whatever they could get He said between playing he was asked to do laundry or crew type duties He quit after his contract was up

Crew member here Imagine if u were a housekeeper or a dishewasher They have real history to sharebr People on the internet are sharing the "Starbucks vacation job cup of coffee ship life" to the world while the serious people are doing the real job in this industry brThat's why people come to work and see that the reality of being a cruise crew is very different

Here is my thought: It is a young people gig What I mean by that is if your choice is being paid to play music on a cruise ship, get drunk, get laid, lay on the beach, or work at the super market, the choice is pretty easy if you are in your 40's doing that, that's a different story
