Great video actually covering the software installation not just the physical installation for your power requirements there is a couple power supplies that would remove the two switches (main power and momentary switch) One is called the M2-ATX and the other is the M4-ATX both of which are ignition controlled power supplies that are designed to turn on/off PC motherboards much like a standard car amplifier They can be set to turn off the system while leaving enough time for the operating system to save details and boot up the operating system like OEM systems with the key Comment from : MindDrive |
I have recently started on building my own android auto headunit with openauto pro and I was wondering if i can make a digital dash also and came acros your video While finishing up the headunit I came acros a new project for a digital dash called SDC Speedy Digital Cluster The demo from the team behind the project showed the dash booting very fast Do you think it would be a great fit for your aplication? Just wanted to note that MicroSD cards were not intended for the use of running a full-time operating system and its required I/O They have a maximum read/write count that can be hit if used frequently enough Also they aren't the most reliable storage sources over timebrbrIt would be a good idea to boot the Raspberry Pi from an external storage source in order to avoid a potential failure in the system during a critical process, like drivingbrbrSource: Software Engineer Comment from : Bitronicc |

Pardon my ignorance, but how is this ‘connected’ to the vehicle? Data connection I’m talking about Comment from : Ernest Galvan |
That is awesome work I've considered doing a custom display, but in my case, it would either be a smaller display for a custom motorcycle, so I'd need to make it more streamlined with vehicle power, or to replace the stupid Infotainment system in my Mazda I swear, that's the dumbest system I've ever seen in a car, and I would just replace it with an aftermarket radio if it didn't have all the stuff in it like canceling the maintenance light on the dash and controlling other stuff in the car like dash brightness and such I even program PLC's at work for industrial applications, but I haven't really ventured down the path of programming Raspberry Pi's yet Comment from : chipmunkshavenuts |

I have something similar in my car but based on an old android phone with battery removed I power it via ACC power line with a DC-DC converter and a big super capacitor(so it will keep the device on for about 30 secs after the car turned off or the engine stall) I use an optocoupler to connect the ACC power line to GPIO, when the car turned off, the device can use this signal to auto shutdown its self Comment from : Chip@SnakeOilDev |

Hi, I have a classic Mini, in which I have a 7" TouchScreen and RPi 3 running Kodi Media Centre I always intended to make a CarPuter / Pi Dash but never got around to it I have now installed a new 1310 engine and will soon be adding a Speeduino ECU I have installed Tuner Studio and Kodi, but am looking for a complete solution I have found your excellent tutorial which covers part of what I am after, but there is one essential and one desirable element missing I would like a GPS speedometer and also the ability to play audio and video via something like Kodi? Sat Nave would also be great I understand your project is for a Race Application so my desirables are out of spec, but are you aware of any project that has TunerStudio working along side Video / Audio / SatNav / Speedo etx? Comment from : Bill Harvey |
You didn't mention anything about how the PI actually gets it's information from the car's ecu What the ecu is, what other options are there for non-mega projects for example, if any at all Comment from : Martin Atsinov |
