I work in a tank yard trans loading liquids between trucks and trains and often have to pump things like hydrogen peroxide which if the pump is not properly primed can cause a catastrophic fire

I never understand why people compare things to planes to demonstrate that they're heavy I understand that Boeing 747 fully loaded is not light but compared to trucks or just about anything considered heavy their density would be quite low When you watch the wings on take off and you can see them move and what's inside of them It is actually quite shocking how little material is used to construct a plane In your head You imagine them packed full of metal and being heavy been reality they are extremely skeletonized and and only what is necessary is there If if it wasn't there is no way they would ever be able to take off with all of the unnecessary weight It's actually a marvel that we can make machines this massive fly

The bit about vortexing is not quite right While it is true that ingesting air is not very good for pumps, the problem with the vortex is that it reduces the pressure at the intake causing cavitation The swirling vortex causes the liquid to swirl around the intake rather than flow into the intake That creates very low pressure there - reduces the NPSHa

The information presented id good We make Instaprime pumps that use a high CFM and that prime dry up to 30', that can pump continuously flows as low as 2 GPM with a 3600 GPM 8" pump without losing prime We have not experienced any pump problems with vortexes except it reduces flow rates There are several vacuum prime pump manufactures We have 12 patents on our pumps David Muhs
