How do you know how to set the steps per inch on the box? I have a sherline lathe with 425 oz motors and connected direct no chain or belt

@anajonesr FYI, I have the EXACT same set-up you have described here With the exception that I will have a 4th motor and driver slaved so I can run an dual overhead gantry system I have purchased all of the electronics for my cnc but have yet ordered the framework I intend on using supported 20mm linear rails with my truck gapped at 6 inches to eliminate play but the one thing I have not set in concrete is the drive system I could care less about speed and I am focused purely on accuracy

@anajonesr If you have a lead screw of 2 turns and a stepper of 200 turns that is only 400 actual positions per inch your cutting tool can make I like your videos very much and find them very informational but I am failing to understand what benefit you receive from forcing the software to generate these extra steps just for the micro-controller to consolidate them

@anajonesr so how does this benefit the machine in anyway, other than require a computer that can handle such a huge kernel volume In your exmple you talk about using a 2 turn per inch lead screw with a 200 step motor That leaves ou with only 400 x 400 points of contact with your cutting head That sounds like n atrocious resolution?

i am a bit confused as to how the microstepper works here, you have it set a 1/16 so does that essentially mean that it requires 16 impulses from mach3 before it will send 1 impulse to the stepper motor If that is the case that seems like an artificial form of accuracy
