you can also use a magnet test, sometimes they plate them in steel so it would stick to a magnet, however silver plated over brass or copper won't stick to a magnet

If a Silver Eagle has an AW ( for Adolf Wyman) on the bottom edge of the robe in front of the rear foot it is REAL If the AW is absent on the bottom edge of the robe it is Fake, Period! It is really small so you will need a magnifying glass, and the W is above the A, but it is there The only exception is for the 2023 year Biden in his infinite wisdom had it removed in favor of the missing reed on the edge of the coin, (It Figures)

I seen a seller on ebay a few weeks ago trying to sell 1906 silver eagle ,I proceeded in nicest possible way I could to let him know they were fake ,he basically cussed me out told me to mind my own business that he knows they are real ! Lol! I was just hoping it was an honest seller maybe didn't know they were selling fake coins ,but he knew 100 what he was doing ! Last I seen it was a pair and bidding was up to 80$ !

Great video man The resonance test reminded that people have been counterfeiting silver coins throughout history and using sound to detect them If you look at antique cash registers from back in the 1800’s you’ll notice a piece of marble just above their cash drawers It’s not just decorative The cashier would drop your silver onto the marble before placing your coins in the drawer and if they didn’t sound right they’d give them back to you Without the marble thing they wouldn’t hear the sound until they had mixed your counterfeit coins in with their real money

As a newer stacker your videos have been so helpful My local coin stores are basically nonexistent so I’m forced to buy online, learned quickly to just avoid eBay in general and only purchase from reputable dealers If it’s too good to be true it usually is 99 of the time

ASE’s do have a legal face value of $1 probably assigned so they could charge people who fake them with counterfeiting money which is a much more serious crime than making a fake silver round

SS it's never exactly one troy once It's always sligtly over If it's under by even a little, it's fake for sure, the mints do not allow underweight coins to make it out the door But they are not gonna re-mint the coin because it is 001 over I am not sure what their gray zone is but you can always expect a real coin to be sligjhly over 1 oz

Don't buy coins, from China and always check with a pocket pinger or a sigma tester, and most lcs have tester, Ebay has a money back guarantee so if your not really going to lose money, while it's unfortunate but it does happen , I bought a few maple leafs that were fake but listed as genuine tested them were fake took pictures had a refund the same day as proof given
