Wow, I'm amazed I had never tried to propagate a rose in any way I watched this video this past July and decided to see if I could do it Well, I got the cutting planted and covered with the bottle top and put it underneath the swing on the patio It gets a little sun every day, but not too much Kept checking it to see if anything was happening It seemed to be doing okay, so I stopped checking as often Yesterday I happened to look (it's late September now) and was amazed Not only had the cutting taken, the cutting had grown 10 inches and had 9 side shoots off the main stem, and the top had grown up through the open spout of the plastic bottle covering the cutting Not only that, there is a tiny rose bud right on the top Wow! Guess I should pick off that bud so the energy can go toward growing the root Can't wait to plant it Thanks for such good directions------they work great Comment from : Victoria Witte |
|
Will the cutting need regular cutting if theres humidity in the bottle also does it need heat I cant see any root development in my cutting and its been few weeks now Its in a pot in the garden and last week or so weve had constant rain wondering if they need to be moved? Comment from : L 839 |

So 4 years from the making of the video I’ve just seen it I’ve used lemonade bottles for ages as cloches with the lids unscrewed for all sorts of plants Also I sometimes buy 5 litre water bottles which are also very useful Being careful at the moment as had a corneal graft recently but look forward to getting back to planting stuff Must admit wish I’d been able to take cuttings from the bunch of varied roses DH gave me for our anniversary but I’m nearly, but not, at that stage yet Also enjoy your house build videos, so thank you for your efforts Comment from : Linda Lomax |

If roses are prone to fungal attack, the dome is the last thing you want Slownickel would poke the stem through a 4" rockwool cube so that the tip callouses over quickly It's an improvement on what the Dutch use to propagate millions of roses Comment from : Chris Stavro |

Hello Mike! I used your technique, and it has apparently worked! My strongest cutting, the thickest one, is growing leaves! I have no idea what the roots are doing, but the top is doing well But I have a few questions? What should I do with this little cutting if I can get it to fall and winter in a pot? The parent plant is in a container and gets cut back and "put to bed" for the winter in the garage, but what to do with a tiny plant over the winter? Also, I could not find fir bark mulch here I ended up using this product that looks just like Cocoa Puffs, it's very light, and I also read you can use perlite and potting soil (60/40) I'd love your thoughts, and your videos are terrific :) Comment from : fenfrk |

Mike? Loved the video & will like & subscribe Living in the city (without any vehicle & only access to limited garden centre supplies- I’m unable to obtain bark as the growing medium Therefore, what do you recommend that’s widely available … at Home Depot for instance? Also, it’s almost mid August now - how late can this be done? I’m in Toronto, Canada Comment from : Dora Cotterell |
