Rule number one, BUY only from a reputable precious metals exchange Rule number two, invest into the digital precious metals testers available these days They’re expensive but totally worth the price if and when you are buying precious metals, or selling too, as you can prove that what you are selling is indeed a pure precious metal item I discourage people from buying larger weighing precious metal items as these days these unscrupulous people will often times study geological materials, more particularly the atomic weights, and fill these bars or rounds with a cheap material and layer the tops with the real precious metal material On a scratch test, of course the metal would appear real, but testing these items with the digital testers will immediately reveal that they are not 100 pure Since 2008 or prior, the law enforcement communities have been aware of this scam and unfortunately it’s beyond their control So do yourself, and others, a big service and don’t risk by buying precious metals from people or sites that are not reputablebrbrBy the way, you can test the bars or rounds using the digital testers, but a buyer that is old school or uneducated will probably open up the assay card and perform the scratch test method to see if they are good If at the end they don’t want to buy your precious metal, and the assay card is ruined, you may have a hard time finding a place that will buy your bar or round, unless they have the digital testers in which they can immediately test the validity of the product

Buy a sigma If you open them you'll lose a little bit of premium but still get spot No huge deal Buy from a trusted source and you will be less concerned but that is a downside if you sell back to a bullion dealer only So many dishonest people that earn their living through stealing and deceit Hopefully they will have consequences one day

I buy only government back gold bullion coins- with the exception of very small gold bars- 1 gram, etc Even with sovereign golds coins you can get ripped off if you are not careful Great video and warning to gold bar stackers

After 40 years of collecting I can tell you the chances a dealer would open those to verify before buying is essentially zero Most won't even bother with the veriscan A few might, some might put it on a tester, most probably won't botherbrbrThe cost of faking a fractional gold bar, along with the packaging and scan info is fairly high, a one ounce is much more likely to be faked brbrIt does happen, but most are real If you bought the TD bar from TD you've got nothing to worry about on that one brbrMy advice against fakes, stick with the 2021 or newer Britannia series in the new design Zero confirmed fakes, probably won't be for several years
