Can you do this with an orchid that just put out a flower stem? There are no buds yet

Rubbing alcohol does not sterilize surfaces It disinfects - reduces number of pathogens, but does not kill them all To sterilize, the clorine bleach or boiling wager/steam for >5 minutes would be required

I just bought an orchid from a big box store It is in full bloom, but in very sad shape She was in a tiny, thin plastic pot that was set into a nice ceramic pot It was on the half price shelf, so I rescued her I went ahead and repotted her, even though she is in full bloom She was planted in only sphagnum moss that was hard as a rock! I put her in a 5" plastic pot with ventilation holes I used orchid bark Fingers crossed she lives!

I have a shaded lawn full of healthy sphagnum moss I filled a bag of washed & dried Sphmoss I have a Lot of corks that I’ve washed & cut up Is it OK to repot using these homegrown/made products, along with soft tree bark, I’ve cleaned in hot water & dried?brbrI found some old palm tree branches that have this soft, spongy pale fibre at the old connecting end If I get them after they fall off, the fibre can be cut & cleaned It has been fantastic for air & moisture when mixed with old tree soil & some sandy soil used for most plants & African violets, in different mixtures The palm fibre allows water to absorb water while leaving the soil soft & airy Time will tell if it works well or fails

Thank you so much! I watched your video the first time a few months ago and finally repotted my tiny orchid that I’ve been tending for years It exploded with a new leaf and the leaves grew like crazy Because of that I repotted again a few weeks ago and now it has buds 🤭 I’m so glad I finally got it out of the hard foam or whatever it has been in in its tiny cup from the grocery store I couldn’t have done it without this video and your recommendations

I have had orchids for many years, and quite in need of repotting Some are falling out of the pots they are in, but continue to spike I have one orchid that has had a baby and I need to separate it and replant So thankful I have watched this so I know how to look for dead roots -- and there are many on every plant Will order this mix and new pots Thanks so much for the information Can't wait to undertake this project!

Thank you Danni for your very detailed videos In the last year I became an orchid mom too, and have learnt so much from watching your videos I have a question now, and maybe you or someone in the group can answer it After purchasing my orchids, I always deconstruct them and put them in fresh medium and clean pots (the first one I bought had the infant plug still in it and it didn’t survive, so now I always check!) I’m afraid when I repotted my orchids that I didn’t cut away all the dead roots Should I now repot it again, after seeing more mushy roots? I’m afraid of stressing my orchids to much Please help 😄

I'm new to Orchid & I received this plant as a gift It has been a very healthy plant One Spike was finished blooming & I cut it back like I saw you do The roots were bad shape yet save quite a few nice ones brI ordered this mix from ur supplier & now even though my Orchid is putting on a very healthy spike it leafs are become flimsy not stout like they were and showing a few tiny wrinkles on leafs My climate is very dry here so maybe the new medium I bought wasn't what my plant needs ? Please any help will be greatly appreciated ❣️ 🕊

I have several orchids that I would like to repot and change their medium out, but they have grown completely through their slotted orchid containers How can I safely remove their precious roots from the slots without injuring them? their containers are not very soft plastic so it would be quite effort to cut it but I can’t just put them in more soil within the current pot That they’re already in somehow I have to take them out if I have to cut the roots to get them out I can I just think that seems aggressive

I am FOUR minutes into this video and already learning!! All my orchids are now out of their pots and lying on paper towels-del-drying out the roots which are soggy and have been sitting in water One plant is actually IN a pot with those aeration holes in it --/del but the pot has always been in a "decorative" pot so --- really --how much aeration were the roots getting? Also, roots have grown through and out of those aeration holes and so I am wondering if I should just cut away the plastic pot and hope to save at least some of the roots? or?

Thanks to your videos I'm finally able to keep happy orchids! All those times when I got orchids, they'd die because I followed the instructions on the tag The store I work at sells phalaenopsis orchids sometimes and when the flowers drop, they're thrown out I brought some of them home and it was such a surprise when I repotted it how it had the most horrible potting mix and most of the roots were already rotten It took some time for them to recover, but they soon started to make new leaves and flower spikes I now have three beautiful orchids flowering and another one that's growing its flower buds after recovering from the fungus infection it had when I got it These flowers bring me so much joy! I look at them every day and they always make my day better

Just order the stuff I needed for repotting my two mini orchids I’m really excited and hoping that this will save some of the buds that are struggling to bloom I got my two orchids back on Mother’s Day and I just watched this video realizing what the problem may be! Hopefully with the new medium and pots they will do a lot better :)

So, you said you shouldn’t repot them when they are fully bloomed unless you really have to, well, can you repot them while they have buds or no? Because I have a Miniature Orchid, and she came in the same sized pot your Mini Orchid in this video came in, but her roots are really healthy and she’s still in bloom I want to repot her once the blooms fall, but she has some buds that may bloom once her other blooms fall so I’m not sure?
