Thats neat I've been using Tiddlywiki and Stroll in the browser which works good but doesn't have vim bindings QOwnNotes seems good too if you like slightly complex GUIs Comment from : @batlin |
Terminal note apps are very enticing till you realise that you can never use images For me that's a show-stopper Comment from : @tullochgorum6323 |
Just what I was looking for! Thank you very much! Comment from : @stulora3172 |
Likely what differentiates between a heading and a tag is whether there's a space between the last leading # and the first word If there's a space, it's a heading If there isn't, it's treated as a tag Comment from : @1monki |
I have tried nb but wasn't very successful It's too confusing Comment from : @max_ishere |

Love your content, but want to offer a clarification/correction I have installed nb (thanks to your recommendations) and successfully sync'ed it to a private GitHub repo with little problems (okay, a few glitches but I'm a newbie ;-) When I make an edit locally, it appears instantly on my GitHub repo, and vice versa This thing rocks I can maintain a single version of my notes ”wiki” that is instantly available on all my nb-enabled computers Awesome platform for note taking, writing, zettlekasten, etc To be clear, I'm just just using the native commands within nb, no additional plug in or helper programs Comment from : @ejmarx |
Hey, props -- I became bcompletely/b obsessed with nb after watching this video, and giving it a try So simple, so powerful Thanks for alerting me to a new thing to obsess about! Comment from : @edheil |
I honestly don't see much utility here, I can just create a git repo and use my code editor to add md files as I go Comment from : @Cenot4ph |
Installed this on my desktops and synced them It’s a great and very simple utility Just what I was looking for Thanks for passing on your discovery Comment from : @Rbourk252 |
This tool is awesome Name 'nb' is too generic though If you google 'nb notebook' or some such, you get mostly jupyter etc notebook stuff If there are any blog posts etc outside this github space I don't know Comment from : @yrjo5050 |
Syncthing is awesome 😎 Comment from : @thisisavinash |
Thanks for this video I have been going back and forth between jrnl, vimwiki, and Joplin's terminal application, but this looks great for my use cases I use Joplin's notebooks so I'm glad to see such a straightforward implementation in NB Intriguing! Comment from : @habituallearner7680 |
I am impressed with Rednotebook Comment from : @peterjol |
Have you checked Obsidian? Comment from : @eyal670 |
Really good video, i already had nb installed but now I know a lot more about how good it is Thankyou Comment from : @machman23 |
Dendron ! Codium plugin, second brain whatsit Push to git through to your phone and use any app that can handle md (obsidian etc) Unfortunately extra functionality is through the plugin (codium/vscode( Comment from : @h1kupz |

Look at what vim uses need to do to use a fraction of emacs' org mode's power 😂 Great video always love to see new ways to do something Comment from : @ryandls2592 |
I use zk with emacs Comment from : @user-xu9zx9fd7n |
Some things are better in terminal Some things aren't This wastes more time than just clicking a check box on a GUI app This is a great video though I've never heard of nb, and love finding new FOSS This could be very useful for a server admin who spends all of his time in terminal Comment from : @ArtW1982 |
Most of my note taking I do in Obsidian, sometimes I use Notepadqq and copy it later to Obsidian brbrI really like Obsidian, it took me some time to get used to it But now i can not work without it For syncing to other devices, I use Syncthing I did not have any major issues yet, other than the ones caused by my own mistakes Comment from : @AdriaanW1966 |
Alright! I gave up on SimpleNote when I moved to a de-Googled phone and have been looking for something to replace it In the meantime, like you, it's been Notes (on the web via Brave) and SimpleMarkdown NB looks good and since it uses Markdown I should be able to sync it to my phone Comment from : @donpeer4477 |
Hi, neorg might be another option for you It's a new neovim plugin like vim-wiki but better Comment from : @takutoitoi224 |

How you use syncthing in phone? Comment from : @rkdeshdeepak4131 |
I use Logseq for my note-taking and Obsidian for my note-making, both have strong communities and syncing capabilities (though Logseq's still in development), so not sure about using a note-taker like NB I'll add it to my list of 'to review' apps though, so ta for bringing it to my attention 🙂 Comment from : @toranshaw4029 |
NB is just a little tiny subset of Emacs Org mode, maybe try it once if you have time, love your videos ✌🏻 Comment from : @macpapo462 |
Would love a video on cherry tree notes! Comment from : @TheLazyJAK |
Hi!! Very interesting, thank you!! There is a also a new Linux native GTK open-source note-taking app called TECHNENOTES (which I am actively developing) Although there are multiple amazing note-taking apps out there, I do think that TechneNotes has some strong points: the database-like interface (with pagination, ordering, filtering, all combined with a treeview structure), the safety of local data storage with optional cloud sync (users choose if and how to sync data over the cloud), multi-tabs support with full-width note view, integration of text/files/images/videos/code, interconnected notes, standard markdown syntax (for cross-compatibility), and - most of all - its native (Gtk) and open source nature (thus ensuring that your notes will be fully accessible in the future, with no risk of vendor lock-in) Comment from : @technenotes |
rapbattle? cool Comment from : @pinkcreeper100 |
Joplin has the option to use external editors, so you can use vim to actually get the work done It also provides the option of E2E encryption so I don't have to worry about privacy Admittedly joplin can be a bit slow but it is only a couple of seconds across your entire work session and given that i tend to have long extensive notes with nvim as my editor, i don't even notice Comment from : @probitjkalita6459 |
Thanks for turning me on to this its great! Comment from : @mlad5274 |
Why you dont like keep, it has very intuitive iterface, fast search and organizing capabilities There are some oss clones of it but they lack working syncing, syncthing is very bloat and eats lot of resouroces Comment from : @survivor303 |
Matt, your personal themed Linux twm looks *chef kiss*! Comment from : @wedge_one |
