In IT and increasingly other fields, a certification of skills or a portfolio of work is far more valuable than a degree And in my case I was a stay at home dad for 16 years, with rising costs my family and I agreed that it would help to get a job and so I dusted off my IT skills and got a job with just a single IT certification Comment from : Vopadeva |

Quiet Quitting’s google definition is “Quiet quitting is when employees continue to put in the minimum amount of effort to keep their jobs, but don't go the extra mile for their employer “brbrWhen I had a pos job putting makeup in boxes, I didn’t see the ppl I usually worked with, reception told me to go to plant B, I ran, it was raining, some racist 💩 happened when I mistook an employee store for the warehouse entrance, finally got in, told to go home, cried in the shower, never showed up again To me, that’s “quiet quitting”brbrThe managers/ppl in charge, the guy asked if it was raining bc I was soaked, I looked him dead in the eyes and says “no” Comment from : Michael Engelmann |

I've worked from home for 15 years now The previous 10 years I worked in a downtown metro area in a high rise building The cost of commuting, parking, clothing, making sure I packed a lunch, and the office politics made it not worth it, which I didn't realize at the time I would take a laborer job before going back to a cubicle Comment from : K M |

One time I was offered to work a Saturday at a manufacturing job I told him I was busy with something, can’t for the life of me recall what, but I didn’t feel obligated to and as such declined My parents got so incredibly mad, I didn’t get it, they offered me something and I declined, I didn’t see a problem with that I am getting paid 20/hr to spend it all in 8 months while I’m in school on rent and tuition, if I work or don’t work that Saturday I’m getting a loan and gonna be tight on money anyway I don’t know why my parents got so incredibly mad over it, it seemed like nothing to blow up over but they did for some reason Maybe I’m lazy and didn’t wanna spend half my weekend at work, but at the same time, can I not just work 5 days and enjoy what’s supposed to be my summer break from school? So basically:br-not enough pay for laborbr-afraid of promotions for the other points listed and othersbr-more $$$ in working several low skill jobs than 1 slightly higher more demanding jobsbr-getting stuck in a slightly higher position for fear to avoid bad reviews for a newer higher position for leaving too early Also that their promotion will lead them to a dead end and they cannot jump to the position they wantbrbrI find it funny how the last part Companies pay their execs more $$$$ in the illusion that higher positions make more $$$$ All this to entice employees to work harder on the 001 chance they can also be in that positionbrbrThat's like giving a donkey a bunch of carrots and expecting the other donkey to try to move faster because the carrot at the end of the stick could be him eating all those carrots like the other donkeybrbrThat does motiviate but only other businessmen in that position who wanna change jobs or investors who see a pay raise for their negotiator means the company is doing greatbrbrMeanwhile the other donkey i mean employees are just looking at it all happen and realizingwtf im not getting any carrots so why move faster? And just end up moving slow if not slower now due to neglect Comment from : turtlemaster 5000 |

I work for a nonprofit startup that gets this and they give us lots of leeway on schedules, a generous amount of PTO, we’re all 100 remote, and we are not expected to work anymore than 35 hours as a salaried employee If we’re efficient with our time or if there is less volume, we work even fewer hours without having to use our PTO When we have organization-wide meetings, they send us e gift cards to buy our lunch We are never asked to work weekends or on holidays and the health insurance is heavily subsidized I pay $10 a paycheck for the most expensive plan and my copays are $30 Dental and vision are even less expensive, but just as good I just got new frames and lenses and paid nothing out of pocket These are the kinds of things that keep me from looking for another job There are a lot of boomers running companies that just don’t get it and they are purging talent Comment from : Travis McMurray |

Here's the issue we're not demanding more from our employers, we're demanding what our employers used to do for our parents & grandparents My grandfather & father worked for General Motors for 30 ish years and both were about to retire at 55 I've worked at 7 different companies in my 26 years of working in the engineering field Most companies have offered have offered 401k's but had no matching Vacation & sick have always been there, substantial pay increases have come from changing companies All while watching my employers constantly having year after year of record profits Comment from : Jacob Side |
