Im 36 and I just heard the phrase “making partner” for the first time today You cannot convince me that office speak solely exists for the point of throwing off the average worker by speaking in some sort of hierarchical code

Ronin Bushida
When the cost of living growth exceeds the growth in wages means it makes more sense to rely on your skills and to become an entrepreneur as opposed to sacrificing wages for your company's margin growth

Well you can thank Democrats for the most recent woes, but the system is broken for sure and that is due to everyone prior to this point Anyway, it has been common knowledge that the "old timeline" is not the norm for quite some time, no excuses for people not knowing and figuring it out It isn't harder, just different, and this is the result when you raise kids who can't adapt or think for themselves Keep voting against your own interests, remaining ignorant, and enjoy 😂

This isn't thinking ahead though People used to work for as much money as possible to care for their family and to create generational wealth to help improve the next generation Right now this "I am going to put in the minimum" is mainly the selfish "me" culture that doesn't think past themselves
Comment from : Jared Miller

Inversiones incia
No amount of money will be enough when a person goes mentally and physically insane, with the revelation that time's up, nothing achievedbrThat being the case, even a huge bank account will be useless, can't take it to the grave

Shamileification
I'm sitting back laughing at the attitude in the video Sure, "quiet quit" "laying flat" and all thatbecause we HAVEN'T BEEN THROUGH A RECESSION SINCE 2008that's 15 years ago A bull run that's been that long creates a whole generation of recency bias brI'm gen x, financially retired and still run my aluminum manufacturing company for fun But, I've been through horrendous downturns and all this great resignation will turn into the great begging for a job
Comment from : Shamileification

Vopadeva
In IT and increasingly other fields, a certification of skills or a portfolio of work is far more valuable than a degree And in my case I was a stay at home dad for 16 years, with rising costs my family and I agreed that it would help to get a job and so I dusted off my IT skills and got a job with just a single IT certification

Quiet Quitting’s google definition is “Quiet quitting is when employees continue to put in the minimum amount of effort to keep their jobs, but don't go the extra mile for their employer “brbrWhen I had a pos job putting makeup in boxes, I didn’t see the ppl I usually worked with, reception told me to go to plant B, I ran, it was raining, some racist 💩 happened when I mistook an employee store for the warehouse entrance, finally got in, told to go home, cried in the shower, never showed up again To me, that’s “quiet quitting”brbrThe managers/ppl in charge, the guy asked if it was raining bc I was soaked, I looked him dead in the eyes and says “no”
Comment from : Michael Engelmann

Corporations have been screwing the average worker for years all due to putting profits over people Sounds fatalistic but it’s true Some of us have done well (myself included) Always follow the money You may not like what you find

I've worked from home for 15 years now The previous 10 years I worked in a downtown metro area in a high rise building The cost of commuting, parking, clothing, making sure I packed a lunch, and the office politics made it not worth it, which I didn't realize at the time I would take a laborer job before going back to a cubicle
Comment from : K M

Troy Rose
I have 3 regular jobs right now I don't make much (still around 20k a year average because i decided to start going after a few degrees too) but it is sooo much easier to be at a place you dont like working 2-3 times a week instead of 5-7

Ok, I’m only a commodity brIf work wages were fair, if bosses were fair, if bosses were not a roll down of politics and cutting corners for profit, instead of safe, and incentive filled career, why? Why work for jerks ? Every system is broken in America Because democracy and capitalism don’t and can not live on the same block

I watched my Boomer parents destroy themselves by working 50-hour weeks only to have their 401ks vanish in the 2008 crash Yeah, I'd rather not kill myself for people who don't care if their horrible decisions tank the economy because their friends in the government will bail them out

One time I was offered to work a Saturday at a manufacturing job I told him I was busy with something, can’t for the life of me recall what, but I didn’t feel obligated to and as such declined My parents got so incredibly mad, I didn’t get it, they offered me something and I declined, I didn’t see a problem with that I am getting paid 20/hr to spend it all in 8 months while I’m in school on rent and tuition, if I work or don’t work that Saturday I’m getting a loan and gonna be tight on money anyway I don’t know why my parents got so incredibly mad over it, it seemed like nothing to blow up over but they did for some reason Maybe I’m lazy and didn’t wanna spend half my weekend at work, but at the same time, can I not just work 5 days and enjoy what’s supposed to be my summer break from school?

My first job out of college was an IT Tech Support role I'm leaving for grad school soon and ditching them Most of my work could be completed in about 2 hours total in my 8 hour day With the spare time I would:brbr- Cook delicious foodbr- Go on walks and grocery shopping tripsbr- Handle laundry and other choresbr- Watch Twitch streams and play gamesbr- Take an entire statistics course with homeworkbrbrI still had to be on call in case more work came in so I couldn't be away from my laptop most of the time The best part, I was considered to be the most productive employee on my team and even received an award for being an "overachiever"

So basically:br-not enough pay for laborbr-afraid of promotions for the other points listed and othersbr-more $$$ in working several low skill jobs than 1 slightly higher more demanding jobsbr-getting stuck in a slightly higher position for fear to avoid bad reviews for a newer higher position for leaving too early Also that their promotion will lead them to a dead end and they cannot jump to the position they wantbrbrI find it funny how the last part Companies pay their execs more $$$$ in the illusion that higher positions make more $$$$ All this to entice employees to work harder on the 001 chance they can also be in that positionbrbrThat's like giving a donkey a bunch of carrots and expecting the other donkey to try to move faster because the carrot at the end of the stick could be him eating all those carrots like the other donkeybrbrThat does motiviate but only other businessmen in that position who wanna change jobs or investors who see a pay raise for their negotiator means the company is doing greatbrbrMeanwhile the other donkey i mean employees are just looking at it all happen and realizingwtf im not getting any carrots so why move faster? And just end up moving slow if not slower now due to neglect

Knowing that most residents in medicine work 80 hour weeks, it’s quite shocking that a person can fit 2-3 jobs in 60-70 hours, let alone 5 Were office jobs filled with THAT much bs? I can’t imagine even working a part-time in residency 😅

I work for a nonprofit startup that gets this and they give us lots of leeway on schedules, a generous amount of PTO, we’re all 100 remote, and we are not expected to work anymore than 35 hours as a salaried employee If we’re efficient with our time or if there is less volume, we work even fewer hours without having to use our PTO When we have organization-wide meetings, they send us e gift cards to buy our lunch We are never asked to work weekends or on holidays and the health insurance is heavily subsidized I pay $10 a paycheck for the most expensive plan and my copays are $30 Dental and vision are even less expensive, but just as good I just got new frames and lenses and paid nothing out of pocket These are the kinds of things that keep me from looking for another job There are a lot of boomers running companies that just don’t get it and they are purging talent

A lot of jobs can be pointless Luckily I've never gone more than 5 years at any company Just do what you can and learn as much as possible and move on Find something better or for more and just manage your money as best you can You can achieve a good life but you have to be realistic and consistent
Comment from : Miguel Marti

Jacob Side
Here's the issue we're not demanding more from our employers, we're demanding what our employers used to do for our parents & grandparents My grandfather & father worked for General Motors for 30 ish years and both were about to retire at 55 I've worked at 7 different companies in my 26 years of working in the engineering field Most companies have offered have offered 401k's but had no matching Vacation & sick have always been there, substantial pay increases have come from changing companies All while watching my employers constantly having year after year of record profits
Comment from : Jacob Side
