The question isn’t why did exhibit X do bad The question is why is a thing considered good to us, and why instead is some opposing thing considered bad…and what was their attraction to said thing brbrThere isn’t really a good bad right or wrong in the brain, only attraction and repulsion Comment from : Ghett Away |

Hi hi, I'm not a psych expert or student But I had heard that the Stanford Prison Experiment was discredited for its findings because of the unethical practices, disarray of variables, and many other reasons Can someone explain to me why people still use it as an example or a discussion topic? I too feel like it holds value, but I don't know how to explain that Comment from : Jonathan Roberts |

And bullying ? Comment from : Chillcloud |
|
The Stanford Prison Experiment is actually pretty unreliable There’s rumors that the guards were heavily encouraged to act aggressively towards the inmates, as if their aggression was helping the experiment go well Also, guards signed up to be in charge of people, begging the questions: who would sign up for that? And is this really indicative of how the population at large would behave? Regardless of all that, the experiment was highly unethical as inmates were (allegedly) discouraged from leaving the experiment, and were subjected to demoralizing events that possibly damaged their psyche Comment from : Jess Jakubik |
|
Social thinking? You mean communism? Comment from : ESL OG |

The funny thing about asking if a behaviour is situational or dispositional, is that a father’s behaviour could be due to situational influence, but the son (who learns his personality from his father) his behaviour is dispositional Comment from : Is-It- Too-Late? |

When talking about the Stanford prison experiment, it is important to keep in mind that the subjects were all male and college students, which means they were privileged enough in the time to afford higher education, so most, if not all of them, were white Also, the wording of the experiment has been shown to draw more aggressive individuals So as interesting as the study is, it can not be applied to the general population However, it can be generalized to men who are drawn to law enforcement Comment from : MetasActReon |

My theory is most people are biased because of ego the cognitive dissonance response is their ego trying to keep hold of control of their mind, and their existing beliefs If one works on ego, or studies self and observes bias, one may overcome cognitive dissonance responses and tame the ego within Comment from : Zane Cosgrove |

A lot of the experiments that are used in these videos are limited to only studying men, have these studies been replicated using women as subjects, or both men and women? I think that the results would differ Like is it human nature to treat people the way they did in the Stanford Prison experiment, or is it society's expectations that drove the men to react like that I just think that assuming it is human nature is too impulsive, the theory should be explored more Comment from : Joanna Stepaniants |
