Suggestion Only:
brI think that most of us are beginning artists and need to make references to the very basics For this reason, I think it would be very advantageous to put your Color Chart and Text Paint Notations in the lower left corner of your video, during your color presentation here, for students to reference
brThank you for your great mixing examples here Comment from : General3 |
I’ve painted digitally for years and years and colour mixing is what always scared me away from traditional painting…going to try soon with this as a guide Thank you! Comment from : advocatingAvian |
Checked your comments, hopefully I am not repeating I use acrylics now but was “raised” on oils I know the paint bodies are very different, but the use of color should be the same Any advice with your technique with acrylic paints? Comment from : Matthew Peinado |

Why did you move away from Alizarin Crimson? I've been following thia method since you pht the first version of this video out some years ago and I usually use Alizarin Crimson which I haven't had any issues matching any color with it but it looks much different than Pyrole Rubine As for BismuthYellow I may have to give that a try because Cadmium Yellow is very overpowering when lightening a color with yellow Comment from : Piston_Pounder |

Dear Mark, most of us paint seeing screens viz, mobile, iPad or Mac In such situations how to mach colour? We can not apply colour on screen to check neither colour checker trick works, bcoz screen has lots of glare Comment from : PradyArts |

Let’s see you paint Comment from : Guy Nouri |
The problem I see here is simply that it is NOT possible to mix any color with just a few ordinary colors similar to first-graders "8-Pack" crayolas Countless colors are purer and more special and require specific pigments to achieve So, in a nutshell, I do not buy into the premise here Comment from : KpxUrz5745 |
very useful lessonbrilliant demo and lucid explanationMust wATCH FOR ALL BEGINNERS Comment from : eternalthoughts 8055 |
your method changed my life stumbled onto your videos years ago this simplified method puts you in control of your colors as well as the reason why they work or don’t work also keeps one from hiding behind not having “the right paint” to do realism it forces you to think your way thru the process which eventually sharpens one’s eye Comment from : stoneburner |
Great video, enjoyed the demonstrationbrQuestion: Why do you use your brush to mix colors instead of a palette knife? Is there an advantage to it, or is it personal preference? Comment from : Hunt&Sail |
For the lofe of me I just cannot understand why any artist would want to paint from a photograph It just seems so hokey and ridiculously childish and generic It's embarrassing really but apparently most artists enjoy the accolades from a public that obviously doesn't understand creativity or care to Painting from a photograph may indeed be an art form but undoubtedly it is the lowest form of artistic creativity in existence Comment from : Hyberean Glastonbury |
Would this work with other types of paint? Comment from : Rose Arthur |
I miss the unedited, uncut, raw and scruffy paint mixing brThis will suffice Comment from : SHANE LINK |

Dear Lord, I finally understand why I know so little about mixing colors and why I`ve always avoided doing itbrThank you so much for your excellent explanationbrAt school, we`ve had so many years of art lessons, but we`ve learned almost nothing about mixing colorsbrI would have gladly exchanged at least half of those lessons for lessons about color mixingbrHow they could ignore the most important basics is beyond mebrThey were teaching us a foreign language without introducing us to its ABC Comment from : Jozica Bratec |
How did you laminate the photo you compare your paint samples on? Comment from : Low & Slow |
