Personally I'm not a fan of the end product I think the helmet plus the bulky jacket ends up making him look like some overweight bruiser goon rather than keeping the rogue like feel that was the original conceptbrbrI think having a longer style of military coat, like something similar to a WWI trench coat would be a good middle ground, still helping keep a more intimidating silhouette, but still keeping more of the sleek feel

I’ve realized I have absolutely no process to how I design characters really The only examples of good character design I have is some cartoon villains and an old group of kinda fantasy oc’s All my story’s now are just people in the same brining human outfits, they don’t have any real rhyme or reason to what they wear, just tshirts, hoodies, jackets, and tank tops And it’s mostly that the men look like recolored versions of each other They all have different eyes but their hair is just a softener swoop or two I hope I can make all my characters feel very unique eventually and convey who they are as people This was a good video and it helped give some insight thank you! (Damn this was longer than I thought)

The Silhouette rule I feel like should be used only certain characters like ones that are larger than life but if a character is supposed to be some who is normal and gets thrown into the story make two character designs the first one should be mute and not have distinct silhouette and as the character progresses and changes add little changes like the hair getting more and more unique as the character progresses or ad more spiky clothes or accessories at lest that is how I view it

I made a character named hawk he’s a br40 year old virgin with a bright purple Mohawk who playes guitar in a band with different ages But now I’m getting stressedbrMy characters name is hawk (cuz yknow, moHAWK) and well a couple of months after creating the character I remembered about that character from kobra kai who is also named hawk and has a Mohawk (i watched the show way before I created my own character) I am now currently stressing cuz I really like it the name of the oc and it suits him well and that I didn’t copy it and I just thought the name suits my oc… will I have to change the name :(

Xul doesnt look like a rogue i think he can be a thief like a snatcher or something i dunno if Xul will be a main character i think he will be fit on side character maybe like a dealer ya know merchants but the art looks cool and i love it❤🔥

Tbh, I liked the first and a bit of the second drawing of this character Also, the oversized jacket idea is a bit weird Maybe he could have a perfect size (maybe a bit smaller) jacket and armour for running around and stuff Other than that, I really really REALLY REALLY REALLY liked it!

I don’t really see many flaws in your character, I think he looks awesome and fits his role really well Though, I may be biased as that is a really good design I don’t really have much of a process, but if I were to describe it, it’s just drawing my character over and over, slowly making changes to their design as time goes on and I really get to know them

I loved the first one so much more than any other version, although your first attempt to redo it slightly more sci-fi was also great, and I do love the helmet But the oversized coat just makes me feel like it’s does him an injustice beyond just the story It really turns me off tbh and I’d probably avoid a comic with him lmao But as a video, this was a really strong one in showing me how to do the development stage Your coloring is really high quality!

I would probably swap the coat for some bulky body armor, but keeping it thin at the joints for a subtle hint he's thin Experiment with cloaks/capes cuz their cool People might confuse him for a robot, especially with the thin joints, but that plays into the whole false identity thing if he's really human

One of my characters is a half breed human elf mix his dress is a combination of both he's a bit of a rogue and he carries a set of scimitar swords he calls Sapphire and Ruby I don't have the artistic skills to draw up something like that I don't know of anybody that would I can picture him in my mind but I don't have the skills to do it

I feel like the problem with this approach is the smaller individual parts do not equal the greater some The core concept was that he was someone who was pretending to be someone he wasn't, which isn't a physical attribute, it's mental A better question to ask is who was he pretending to be and again, you sort of answered that with a 'shady rogue'brbrBut the problem is the final design doesn't reflect that, can a mask and a large coat reflect that of a shady rogue, yes, does the large coat bulk up his smaller frame, yes But together he just comes off as more goofy and looks more looks like a generic robotic citizens wearing a large coatbrbrI feel that once you have the pieces you like, you should iterate more, branch out more designs and try different ways the concepts you like, blend well to keep the desired outcome, otherwise you are just slapping the best parts from designs that weren't built with each other in mind together and calling it a daybrbrIs the final design bad? No, but does it reflect the core concept of the ogdesign that you wanted to improve on, no as well

I feel like you can get more out of the idea of the change and deception with the clothing here, that would give you a more interesting silhouette and add character to the composition as a whole brThe jacket could be much more multi-functional, with inflation valves hanging off, concertina sleeves, buttons, speakers, lights and gadgets could all be present as well as unusual shapes straining at pockets, suggesting at further surprises in store brThe other elements similarly could be expanded upon Hydraulic/telescopic legs, shoes with springs and gadgets, light sources escaping from under the shirt or within the jacket or from open pockets, creatures or mini robots climbing out of a pocket could also be a fun way to say "there is more than the surface is showing" brFinally, I'd say it's also important to have something on the chest (near the heart, obvs) that gives a hint at who is really under it all Maybe a flower, a medal or just a badge, just something that tells us the real person underneath isn't lost in the character he's playingbrbrIncredible artwork, though Sorry for such a late response, I just found the channel Wonderful content Really useful to hear other peoples process
