I work in a restaurant and I do dishes to help them and one point it was cloged with a butter knife and it kept coming up note the plumbing drain was in the floor so when it came up it fucking flooded the dish pit how ever we got it cleaned

You flush with hot water which helps to remove the built up grease in said pipes Flushing with cold water only hardens the grease Grease in your pipes will build up at every fitting and any place that it can catch on to and cause clogs

If you don't have a disposal let some water into both sides of the sink, which ever side has the "P" trap (usually the right side) is the side you want to plunge 1st Have someone hold down the drain plug on the other side Once the water in the plunged side is gone, pull plug on other side and plung it as needed However I don't recommend plunging your sink Basically as a last resort type of thing

Disclaimer: only 30 effective Even though you stop up one side of the drain and plunge the other the velocity of the disposal will often just send the backed up water up the vent pipe behind the sink making one think they got it DO NOT PLUNGE THE DISPOSAL SIDE!!! You will blow the gasket out and you’ll need to replace the disposal If you’re certain the drain is open after chasing it with cold water run some very, very hot water down the drain to remove build up

The principle is correct, but the method is all wrong disposal side fill with hot water, 2-4 inches water in the opposite side, plunge as directed, leave disposal on until empty, repeat until the venturi siphon drains the plunger side

If and when it does go down make sure you look under the sink to check the drain didn’t come loose and is flooding your cabinets Most of the time the T between the disposal and strainer basket is clogged It’s split in half down the middle to prevent water from backing up on the strainer side when disposal is running

First of all, do Not try this at home with out proper supervision! 2nd Never plunge your sink! The drainage pipes underneath your sink is not meant to handle pressure If your sinks are clogged, a real plumber would disassemble that piping and if that doesn't work you would snake the clean-out
