Bro that joint at the end Sometimes you just have to start over You had a 2mm gap at the shoulder You should've just cleaned up the corners of your mortise and the shoulders of you tenon a bit better instead of hammering it in Comment from : emiel beckers |
BRILLIANT Comment from : Timothy Roper |
Use sanding discs with a spiral pattern of small holes (they are made that way) The shop vac pulls the dust through the holes so the sanding disc doesn't get clogged, and it sands better (read: faster) Comment from : Angel Bear |
The running of opposite sides through the jointer, purely ingenious!!brbrEven though it’s so obvious the simple solution!!! Comment from : Josh Sand |

Those engineering squares are too fiddly Even cheap Chinese 1 2 3 blocks are more than accurate enough to set up wood working machines, (nobody is working wood in 0001") and you need two or more to ensure your fence is both square and straight Comment from : Mark Bernier |

I don't know how you cut that plug with that plug cutter, with a hand-held drill but my axact same plug cutter will mangle the wood if I tried that with a hand held drill Truth be told, even with a drill press, my plugs cut with that plug cutter will be sub-par and very rough, and may not even stand being tapped in the screw hole!! How can you do it? Comment from : Seth Warner |
why not run it throw the planer period Hello Comment from : Jim Delarosa |
These were some good tips I might add, get the longer plug cutters Some are longer than others If you're a millionaire, you can just buy a Stanley 77 Comment from : Joseph Haddakin |

Not all double-sided tape is made for carpets Carpet tape is made for carpets, so don't use it in woodworking Use woodworking double-sided tape It's easier and quicker that the blue tape "trick" Probably cheaper, too The blue tape trick is fine for an emergency when you are out of double-sided tape, but not routinely Blue tape is NOT easier to remove than woodworking double-sided tape Comment from : Andrew Bennett |
Everything is a game changer! Comment from : Ronnie Paul |
As I am a beginner can someone tell me what is the difference between a planer and a jointer? Comment from : Captain Awesome |
What is so wrong about just using double sided tape? It's inexpensive, doesn't dry out like a bottle of CA glue can and is just a single product Just the one roll of double sided tape vs CA glue, Blue tape and activator Seems silly to me Comment from : Dave Kimball |

You kind of mention this at the end But Proper Shop lighting is huge imo Just getting some cheap harbor Freight LED's even is often a huge upgrade over what most of us start out with in our shops After coming from a custom cabinet shop, to making my own shop space I really missed the quantity of lighting Having the shop well lit with good coverage makes it so much easier to do finishing work Give it a try, your eyes will likely thank you :) Comment from : TheTsunamijuan |
Why are you using “joiner” and “jointer” interchangeably? The machine is the jointer and you are the joiner 🫶🏻 Comment from : Living My Best Life |

Good tips I didn't understand one part of the face side of the board smoothing If you own a planer wide enough for the board, why would you make it uneven on the jointer instead of just starting with the planer? I get the part about using the MDF for a flat backer, just not the the part about doing part of the job on the too narrow jointer Comment from : davidbwa |
Dang I wish I knew the joiner trick years ago! Comment from : Jack Wagon |

I don't know if the featherboard prevented the jointer's safety from closing but pushing a board through that thing with 5-6" of exposed finger shredders seems like a great way to to end up in a life altering accident Comment from : Nate |
Love the dovetail tip at the end Comment from : Kevin Langley Jr |
Very impressive John Comment from : Linden Houston |
Thank you! :) Comment from : licustoms |
I didn’t quite get the purpose of the bonus tip: jointer with large board It seems to me like the same could’ve been achieved with planing on both sides? Why use the jointer at all? Please explain Comment from : Raul Hiedra |

I dont understand why you ran the board through the joiner prior to the planer to make the board flat Wouldnt the planer do the same thing?? I watched it twice?? What am I missing? AND did you just sand wet glue! Great tip Thanks Comment from : Eric Hart |
I love the offsetting angles using the joiner GREAT TIP! Thanks so simple but wow what a difference! Thanks Comment from : Eric Hart |
You have too much time on your hands if you're screwing around with plug cutters Far cheaper, less work, and simpler to just use dowels or use dowel joinery and have nothing to plug My issue with the activator is don't you now have the CA activator all over your pieces now? In the glue filler example, you've just ruined your sandpaper, why not just use the soap and water cleanup as the glue specifies? Comment from : JPowellCreative |
I have to try the blue tape and ca on my new table saw tomorrow Comment from : Paul Krieg |
But why is CA glue so freakin expensive?? Comment from : Pete Webster |
👍👍👍👍great tips Comment from : Gib Clark |
Great tips man!brHonestly, I've always had double stick tape lying around for household use, so never had to deal with the glue trick It's pretty cheap and a roll will last you years, but YMMVbrThat jointer trick is awesome! you can even use it on a tablesaw if your getting cuts that aren't 90* first board face up, second board face down, fits perfectly! Comment from : Temjiu |
As another you tuber says, that’s ok with the blue tape, but why not do the job in one with double sided tape Why come up with a new method that works rather than an easy old method that also works - and blue tape can also leave a residue Comment from : paul webb |
Thanks for the great tips! Very useful and affordable for beginners Comment from : Shandrae Hansen |
