When I was doing private contract work on a research vessel we were at port in Palermo Sicily on our second visit to this port Our first mission there were no port issues at all but when we were getting ready to leave port on our second mission all of a sudden the port authority decided our paperwork was not correct so we were detained and couldn’t leave the port until this paperwork issue was resolved This took a week and a high ranking government official had to fly in by helicopter just to get this paperwork issue taken care of Of course it was about the money and paying off these officials so we could leave We never went back to Sicily and our next home port was in Italy I do understand that in certain countries you will deal with corruption with port and government officials detaining a ship until they get paid so you can leave port after cargo discharge or taking on new cargo Comment from : Monster Zero |

Not had that kind of inspiration But had other kind! There are some that Must find something! And will keep looking until they find something! One place I worked always had some small thing for them to find Not anything big just a small thing, sign not hanging right kind of thing They can't find anything big and start looking for something, just anything They must find something to show that they needed to do the inspection They need to justify there job A good one was the tag on the fire extinguisher not hanging on with the wire but taped on to the side UL inspection will write that up every time But it is just a OK the wire broke but you need to replace the little wire That is a easy fix and they don't fine you if you can get it fixed before they finish the paper work Comment from : Donald Smith |

What do you do if you know you have something that is going to cause problems that you can't fix before you get into port? I was working as RO-RO ship's Agent for some time and i should say that it is stressful even for Agent You need to put together many people (border control, customs officer, veterinary and phytosanitary control etc) and complete all arrival/departure controls in time Otherwise ship will be waiting and can not start discharging operation or leave the port and delay is just unacceptablebrAnyway i just wanted to say that it is not only stressful for crew but the other people involved too :) Comment from : Artem Kholopov |

Love these videos I’m a commercial fisherman I used to work on a longline boat and the only thing we would see would be container ships When you are on the ocean for so long it comforts you in a way to see other human life when your so far from anything Nothing like setting 30 miles of line in 5 knots of tide and it swings into the shipping traffic and gets cut into a pieces 😂🤣😂 I would dread waking up and looking at the AIS tracks over ours 😳😳😳 Keep up the good work Have you ever come into Virginia in the USA??
