I think SS4 got overly harshly hammered in reviews I know that review copies suffered from not having the huge day one patch However the reviewers never said stuff like, "I expect this or that to get patched" They just slated SS4 into the ground brbrTo be fair in a sense, some of the new enemies are annoying I don't liek some of the enemy updates like the mechanoids or lime-green gnarr There are some cringy cut-scenes However the moment to moment combat is still as crisp as everbrbrHave to agree with Nick over ligthing though I never thought about until I watched this vid The lighting is proably what pulls SS4 backwards in terms of appearance

When it comes to gaming, and more importantly Serious Sam games for me, the emphasis is on chaos, stressful situations and having fun killing stuff so it doesn’t get you I don’t get too hung up on the graphics One of the biggest crimes in the series so far was when serious sam 3 did not have enough ammo to go round!! This looks like a marginal improvement on that But the first and second encounter HD Are probably my favourite Sam moments so far…

croteam promised in 2019 that the new serious sam 4 engine was going to have tons of enemies in screen without FPS drop but was a lie or a false promise yet there is a big framedrop when tons of enemies are in screen

There is a lot of 'tearing' in this version This happens often if you move 'out of bounds' This can be off-putting in the extreme There are whole areas, too, that are literally EMPTY of enemies - this despite the updates

Everything about 4 is great except for the bland modern landscapes they give us (and the bugs, and the unironic serious tone) Sure they are lush, but it doesn't come close to how fun it was to fight around in Ancient Mayan civilization or Ancient Egypt, rather than their modern ruins There was extreme verticality in the older games that was missed in SS3, and 4 seems to carry along with 3's boring level design

I love the way everyone complains about how SS4 looks Not understanding that the SS franchise has never been about good looking graphics, but about killing a huge amount of mobs, and having a photorealistic game would not help that style of gameplay at all

No offence but this game seems really underwhelming The graphics are quite bad considering that this game is made in 2020 The face animation seems really cheap I think Fallout: New Vegas has better face animation than this, and that game was made 9 years ago The game feels extremely rushed
