Having recently retired we all starting living large an extra feeding more light more water changes more cleaning the gravel and cleaning the filter at the same time the next thing you know algea bloom followed by bacterial bloom I learned my lesson less light less food hold off on water changes for a couple of weeks and everything is fine , my tank is a 20 gallon heavily stocked with various tetras and heavily planted Sometimes the best thing you can do is nothing and just ride it out

Love your videos I have learned so much I do have a question I have 135 gallon tank with a Fluval F6 canister filter Substrate is bio dirt, many thriving plants, a few large rocks with crevices, and branches that at one time had tannins I added fish slowly, and now have 4 bottom feeders and 6 one inch Amazon cichlids My tank keeps testing at zero for ammonia and nitrates and the water is crystal clear Do I still need to do a weekly water change? BTW, I agree with kamrensmith

Hi New subscriber here You have some great content I binge watched hours of your videos the past couple of days in preparation to rebuild my wife's tank that she has been having trouble with for some time br We're moving her fish from the current small tank to a larger 40 gal tank After learning what I thought to be sufficient to get the tank cycling, I got started br It's 24 hours or so after filling the tank and treating with dechlorinators, probiotic, ect and the water is still cloudy Almost tannic looking br I used Caribsea Suoer Naturals sand as substrate I rinsed several times before putting it in the tank Of the 2 bags I used to cover the bottom, one was much finer than the other My concern is that the finer grain bag was just too fine and the water will never clear, like the case you had when you put new substrate in a very large tank and ultimately had to replace it againbr Am I just being impatient or am I likely looking at having to replace the substrate? br Thanks for all the great content 👍

Is there anyone still using undergravel filter? I'm old school and I remembered they used to come with an aquarium kit I was able to purchase online for my 30 gallon It aerates the water But I did have cloudy water after a couple of weeks So I added the sponge filter Also I have a clam that fills with air and actuates Creating a type of wave Looking at your tanks and videos it seems that the undergravel filter is not needed

This was SUPER helpful- it’s my first time with a big cichlid tank (I’ve got 3 betta tanks separately which are just so easy compared to these guys), specifically parrot cichilds (got some blue acara and clown loaches in there too) & the parrots are ALWAYS hungry so I’m almost positive I’ve been over feeding- I’ve added a sponge filter in too thanks to this vid- fingers crossed these tips do the trick!!! My TIP is to turn the filter off while you feeding the fish, the water movement the filter creates stops the food from floating and going to bottom before the fish can eat the food Hope this makes sense and good luck 👍🏽
