I work for one of the big medical device industry from Europe which has certain position on international market The primary cost of the medical device goes more than just the device and parts itself, but it involves on the certification, calibration tool, accuracy of the device and those device has been put on the test continuously Those devices also adds in the cost of research, maintenance (warranty is also included in the price) along with employee's wage Some of the devices comes with patented technology so that it monopolizes the entire industry Think medical device like an iPhone, why the parts are cheap but the unit price is expensive brbrPrices of medical devices is usually expensive, but the price of these devices is jack up even higher with introduction of middle man and agent in the healthcare industry So if a government system can get rid of those middle man and favours unpatented technology, it can bring the price down lowerbrbrEdit: Not to bash the creator, but if a self-made ventilator without rigorous testing can cause lungs to explode (not joking), and this is highly vulnerable in children

My son whom is a little over a year old now was born 8 weeks prem He required a CPAP for only a few days but spent 4 weeks in the NICU unit until he was allowed to come homebrHere in the UK the only cost to us was approximately £100 which was for all of the cards and chocolates we purchased to say thank you to the incredible staff who we will be forever grateful for ❤️brbrThese guys are doing a beautiful thing for mankind! 👌❤️

When I was born I was having some sort of complication and my mom said they had to put me on some sort of breathing machine for me to survive I believe it was one of these CPAP machines My mom said that she couldn’t afford it She’s been disabled most of her life and on social security and food stamps , etc Apparently the nurse ended up helping her and I and one way or another I was able to use the machine and live I don’t know if the nurse took up the cost herself or how she did it But I can’t imagine someone not being able to afford to pay for this machine to save their baby’s life, and someone denying that to them when they have it readily available Thats insane How could you tell a mother that her baby has to die because she is poor? I teared up watching this Thank you to the people doing this work I just hope we can make healthcare accessible to everyone

Big pharma and the medical industry doesn't want equipment to be cheaper They don't want you to be well They want you to be taking as many pills as they can prescribe and pay (you or Medicare) as much as possible Just like the military industrial complex doesn't want peace

I want to see cheaper medical devices but on the subject of premature babies I like the idea of putting the baby back into amniotic fluid and allowed to finish growing

I do want to see some expert opinions/comparisons, i know one of the major shortcomings of the Maker Designed Covid Ventilators was control over various parameters, but CPAP may be simpler (i would think the baloon is almost identical, so not much of a need there)? Either way that perspective would be neat Granted as always "something is better than nothing"
