I'm starting to grow interest in making a game as a hobby using RPG Maker, with the goal of actually selling it I know it's cliche, but each of the points mentioned here are their own special profession Arts, animations, sounds, even level design are all things done by a teambrbrBut what about a solo dev? As a hobbyist I'm on my own for the most part I'm a software developer by trade so I'm pretty confident with creating unique mechanics I have an idea here and there for the story, probably not revolutionary but it could be worth shot What I can't do are sounds and animations, two big things mentioned here and I was hoping I could get by with default assets with some minor tweaks Does that mean I'm doomed to fail and join the legion of RPG Maker games ignored by society?

id say its debatable on using like full sprites with chibi's as i mean plenty of major RPG's do it with boss's i mean all depends on the fight i feel as like fighting another human and its eather a "to be ally" or "a villian in story" could do that boss's are a major thing to it as be something nice to see a detailed dragon over babydragon right XD

While I do use other engines, I realize they cost a lot more timebrI don't know if there's such a thing as "Speedrunning a quality rpg maker game" but I wouldn't be surprisedbrAnyway, the quality that RPG maker can deliver is its biggest downfall, and yeah, these are great tips, I had to sub despite knowing all that lol it's just pretty common logic devs should knowbrEven some of my favorite RPG maker games have room for improvement, I did play a good handful I often wish it had more variety like better side scrolling/3D Curious what "RPG Unite" will deliverbrthe default graphics is indeed a bit tiresome, while I don't mind some bad grammar, it can come out as cringe, even in my own works in the past lol

I spent some time with rpgm games and to be honest, shortest time I spent in them was, when they had ml translation, too much dialog or it was just game made with the most default stuff and generic story: you are hero, go here, fight those, talk with that guy and repeat

Consistency was a problem in ONYX but I did a lot of work just to make it consistent thanks to artschool let's put sound design bc i can do that because i made over 300 songs though not all good and more
