Your doing it wrong your fighting against the string Counter clockwise walk to your left so you walking the same way your head is turning makes a clean cut yes it will throw debris back on you but so what at least your not throwing clippings in flower beds or on sidewalks it makes blowing off a lot faster Comment from : rick hicks |

So, I have what is arguably the most idiot-proof outdoor tool I have ever owneda string trimmer with a rapid refill line I was going through INSANE amounts of line and I hated trimming before I watched this It used to take forever, and I was always getting hit hard by knarly long weeds and rocks and stuff I never thought to look at the direction it was going inlol I just did my entire front yard, including all the trimming near the street -- which I never do -- and it took about 30 minutes instead of the whole morning Now I can WALK and let the trimmer work Woot! Tried to find a video on advancing the string and after many fruitless searches, found it on here using the 'bump' method It wasn't explained in any video that I've found up until now Also, the clockwise/counter-clockwise operation was a great tip I have a DeWalt 18v strimmer because that's what drill I have but I guess the operation's just the same Thanks Comment from : Steve Scarlett |
Its a little hard for me to tell from the pictures When you say clockwise spinning do you mean clockwise when holding the trimmer during use or do you mean clockwise if you turn the trimmer over like you were going to change the spool of line? brbrThe picture looks like it might be upside down/turned over but I cant tell for sure Comment from : Omnivorous1One |
I thought trimmers only went clockwise south of the equator Comment from : jb888888888 |

Next time wear safety glasses throughout the demonstration process to set a good example……and anytime your trimming out near your street that you are working have a hi-visibility safety vest on because the guy down the road in his silent/quick Tesla isn’t paying a bit of attention to you while driving like a scalded dog…oh and wear them when your walking the dog, good day Comment from : MS Hum53 |

So today is Friday 05/05/23 I watched your video 02 days ago Well, the first thing I learned was that that handle wasadjustable? No way! Yes, that means I prob'ly didn't read the instructions all that close But real mean don't read instructions, right? So I went down to the basement and yep, handle is adjustable Now Mr Battery was still in the charger so I set as you suggested, yeah, just about in the middlebrToday I went out to weed-eat andholy crap! It worked It simply "felt" better Sure it took me awhile to reset the shoulder strap but all of THAT simply to say "Thank you" Comment from : Jack Morgan |

Simi pro Used to do it as a full time job but for a few years and years way backbr I don't use a guard because it hampers the performance of the machine like one commented treat it with respect, respect others around and property, it goes a long waybr SecondBeing at six foot, I prefer to widening the handel all the down do to the fact, handling and feel of not having my arms close together, specially in tall grass more so tall weeds wear I'm welling it back and forth all day Works good like that on hill side to as you'll find yourself lifting it up quite a bit Comment from : Spencer Ladd |

If you are just ripping stuff up like old pompass grass you must be using weak trimmer or thin line I can cut small trees with mine I can do hedges certain ones I'm all about being clean for environment Winding string is easy I like winding better than quick feed That was not always the case When I took the guard off it is like another tool Comment from : Dave Grabowski |

Great video and tips are very good Its incredibly harder to operate a trimmer in my country Unfortunately I have to do it every summer Mediterranean vegetation is a lot rougher and if string is not at least in the thickness of 3,8 or 4,3, it would break in seconds Comment from : greatzoglo karlis |

Wow, I’ve been string trimming for 30 years and did not know a lot of this! Thanks! Comment from : Ellen Foster |
A tip that you didn't mention that not alot of weedeater operaters know about is the underhand throttle grip It's better for wrist fatigue and weedeater control As well as it levels the head of the weedeater for a more effective pass Your throttle hand is palm facing up with your thumb on top and your throttle using your middle and ring finger Comment from : KiDD ViDD |
As for tip #5 you're not suppose to bump the head in the grass unless you wanna scalp someone's lawn Find a hard surface with no loos debris and gently tap Comment from : KiDD ViDD |
Tip #3 is subjective I found it best to edge against the spin of the string it makes the cleanest cut and also the string doesn't propel the head of the weadeater when you make contact with the ground which can gouge the grass If you're going to trim with the spin of the string it's best to do it walking backwards to avoid debris flying at you Comment from : KiDD ViDD |
This guy overcomplicates things Comment from : BIG DADDY TRIPS 619 |

Thanks for the tips! I have a Stihl fs38, i'm 13 and i learn a lot from this video, thanks!👍👍👍 Comment from : Vlad |
First tip is in the intro to the video on what not to do Do NOT bump your trimmer head on grass, it will push the head down allowing the string to cut half an inch or more into the grass Creating this odd looking disk shape pattern in the middle of what would or could have been a good cut If possible; find a hard surface to bump the head on to avoid getting fired Comment from : John |
Great video! Thanks much! Comment from : Sbregher |
This is a native handle holder on the trimer Comment from : Ihor K |
Sorry I walk backwards when edging Comment from : AmericanMade1964 |
I have a question, I just purchased a new fs61r and it spins ccw, yet, in the manual I found online and in most videos I've watched people using ccw trimmers stand to the left of the trimmer, I tried standing to the right of the trimmer as you suggest and I had a very difficult time what do you think I'm doing wrong? Standing to the right of the trimmer, left hand on the throttle, right hand on the handle, feels super weird to me, any feedback, suggestions would be greatly appreciatedbrCheers sir, good info here, thank you! Comment from : Dario Toribio |
