Not everyone has taken college courses on the soil so I listened for ten minutes of continous talk and you have said NOTHING useful I can use I want to know what was your intended point of making this video???? Comment from : Hutzjohn |

So, how do you know if it lack nitrogen or if it has chlorosis? Comment from : Programming Chicago |

Rob,brjust gotta say how friggin’ awesome you (and Michelle!) are the information you are putting out there into the ether is so incredibly valuable to so many of us out here who are listening brthank you both Comment from : rober rush |

Very informative video Our place has excellent base soil having once been a flood plain for several thousand years but many years of set stock grazing depleted the organic matter We're now rebuilding it with rotational grazing in the fields and cover crops and mulch in the garden beds It's a slow process but so satisfying to see the incremental improvement Comment from : Ray S |

So you mention celsius soI'm guessing you are in Canada Mulch is a BIG subject because of the different Green or Brown material has different ratio quantities and some mulch is more fungal were others are more bacterial and depending on what you are using it determines what material you what to use I can't wait for the library to open up again from this Covit 19 shut down So I can find some books about this subject Can you recommend any good books for me It has to be written in simple words I'm not a professor LOL Thanks Comment from : Carolyn Qammaz PA |

I have been learning as much as I can and soil health and what it is and how to obtain it So this subject is close to my heart because I feel it is so important to my family health I look forward to seeing and hopefully joining you on this quest for better soil health You confused me when you mention Zone 5 as I only heard about the different planting zones Could you explain what you meant about the different zones? I'm assuming on your land I'm in zone 6B Pa Comment from : Carolyn Qammaz PA |

What are your thoughts of boosting the soil life with a compost tea treatment? Comment from : Searle Arnold |

Looking good, Rob I was happy to hear your caution regarding mulch and slugs! When we 'sell' ideas as panaceas without providing this kind of information, we risk discouraging folks new to Permaculture One thing I'd add for cold-temperate climates, too, is that SOME locations may benefit from having mulch pulled back temporarily in early spring to allow the frost to come out of the ground Otherwise longer-season crops may not have the time they needbrIt'll be fascinating to observe how quickly your soil responds to the new regime(!) Another great video I love having these timely reminders of what I know and forget when I'm stressed and busy Great discussion under the video too! I'm lucky enough to have every resource I need, except wood chips I've been using oat straw for a few years now but got a part bale of pea straw dumped at the garden when the round baler was home between crops last fall and I must say that I love working with it I can't wait to see if there is a difference next year in the beds I used it in Comment from : Wild Nature Farm |

A couple other problems with mulch- it can do more than bring in slugs, it can bring in mites and other little critters For this reason we stopped using straw mulch for garlic rows and switched to pea strawbrbrIf you make your mulch too thick, you might actually stop your plants getting watered if you don't water deeply enoughbrbrAlso, if using woodchips as mulch, particularly in beds that get a lot of turnover (ie annual veggie beds), you risk mixing the chips in with the soil instead of just having them sit on top, which can rob your plant roots of nitrogen Comment from : Belinda Roadley |

You should have covered that piece of land with wood chips for 6 months before you tried to grow anything on it Comment from : Richard Russ |
