Great video, super useful info! Question - have you ever had any issues with inferred pollution on the 4k or 6k? Comment from : Matt Banton |
Just one thing Holding your breath is not the way you can better stop shaking The best moment is when you just breathe out That's a natural pause for the body and that's the moment when real snipers shoot their target Comment from : Helder Bruno |
Hi Florent, have you had any experience with Cinesaddle (essentially a bean-bag with a carrying strop) for handheld shooting ?brAs you have mentioned in this video tripod is slow to work with (not to mention heavy) and I would like to be more agile Not all the time but a lot of times brbtw; Keep up the good workbr/Per Comment from : PerEng2405 |

Thanks for the video Love your content The p-tap to 12v cable keeps getting in the way of my left hand when I'm shooting handheld and trying to pull focus How did you remedy that problem, with sprigs? Comment from : Jeremy Evan Taylor |
Hi Great video What is the small rig piece you use on the left side of the camera to hold your follow focus? I have been looking for that specific piece for some time Thanks for all the great content Comment from : Zhiwan Cheung |
You didn't mention that you seem to use lenses with IS That probably makes a huge difference vs using non-IS lens Comment from : Shaka |
Thank you! Comment from : SwissPL |
What's a gimbal you would recommend for the BMPCC4K? Comment from : Galactic Tumbleweed |

Very Nice! Comment from : Nikolay Nikitushkin |
An evf pressed up to your eye can also help in reducing jerky movements with a light rig Comment from : Daniel Lo Presti |
nice rig! but it seems pretty frontheavy doesn't this make it harder to keep the camera balanced? Comment from : Jannix |
Love shooting handheld, and it's basically a necessity with my clients who are mainly musicians However the 6k has always given me a hard time getting that fine line between shaky and naturally handheld Comment from : Jameson Weston |
The content The Voice-over both are amazing, just subscribed Comment from : Liaquat Ali |

Ive always been really strict about shooting stable shots and just recently starting to shoot handheld Its a process to leave the shake to the footage but it looks good Comment from : Kalle Pernu |
Lovely vid! Appreciate you and some great advice here I love the rig you have - I never knew about the little small rig 15mm rod attachment without a baseplate that's an awesome option for having a follow focus without going too crazy on the rig size Comment from : Kyle Berzle |
Great tips - a note on breathing though - Breathe! I mean settle the rhythm of your breathing and breath deep, natural intercostal diaphragmatic breaths The same way an actor breathes Tremendous stillness can be achieved The idea is to avoid shallow, jerky breaths that only open the top of the lungs This shallow and uncomfortable breathing can be exacerbated by too much tendency to hold your breath Sometimes a controlled holding on breath can really focus movement (or stillness) but unless the out breath is equally controlled it will follow that the shot gets fidgety If I (rarely) want to emphasise my presence as metapraxis (a great deal of you tube content screams 'camera' rather than subject or 'atmosphere' and is dull as a result - regardless of technical virtuosity in post), I can let the rhythm of breath and steps gently undulate into a hand held move Most of the time however I am interested in calm and centred movement that favours the subject and not the presence of the camera Tai chi is useful as a starting point! Thanks for the thoughtful and experienced tips Comment from : Paramidge |
While traveling I like to put some carbon 15mm rods in my bag and a smallrig shoulderpad Instead of holding the rig only handheld I get a really orginic look with a mini shoulder setup Easy for longer shots Comment from : Alexander Kooistra |
What microphones do you use? Comment from : vivre en nz |
Hiya, for now im going 100 dicu handheld as it waaaaay faster yo frame shots Ive had 2 gimbals and besides changing lens, I found them awkward Although Im leaning towards purchasing a used iphone pro with a DJI pocket $100 gimbal for establishing or fancy shots Comment from : Ken Doughty |
Awesome video I love your calm way of presenting Definitely inspiring me to go more handheld! Comment from : Mike Wilson |
great hints for shooting with BMPCC cameras! Comment from : Daniele from Rome |

Great content Just a question, why they didn't put image stabilization in bmpcc?? Wouldn't that just be great? Comment from : FARJAD AHMAD |
Someone should come up for a cushion to rest the camera on belly to have better control Comment from : Jacky Amar |
no mention of the battery on the bottom Comment from : Bob Becker |

Great insight into handheld filming brInteresting to see the follow-focus using the Tilta kit rod and not a full rail setup which looks super agile brSurprised that you use NPF and LP batteries considering the V-Mount brAnd I saw you have 70-200 in your cine kit How does that work for handheld given the extent of the zoom? can we assume you film in 120fps or is that primarily tripod-based? Comment from : Anthony Nixon |
how do you protect your bmpcc from weather? Comment from : nirmal jaison |
I have that battery, how can I mount it on a DJI Ronin S? Comment from : blackcloud11 |
i have 2 dj ronin tripod grip/handles on mine one on the side of the cage and one on the v mount that works as a tripod you can also do 2 on top or 2 on each side of the cage it might get front heavy with the 2nd configuration though Comment from : Savi Waves |
very beautifulbr video, thank you ! Comment from : Mahmoud Abdelbar |
Question - do you find the that top handle makes it hard to shoot people in documentary work? This lends itself to the camera always being around the mid torso, so you will always be looking up at someone I feel like I'd always be wishing I had a shoulder pad Comment from : FK |
Hey how are you outputting your footage for YouTube? I use h264 H265 and they both do weird gradient banding things Your stuff doesn't seem to get that same issue? Any tips? Comment from : Daniel Lozinski |

Yo! for the everyday kit, what media are you using for that? Comment from : J Taylor |
I shoot almost everything on my RS2 because of the lack of IBIS in the bmpcc4k Comment from : Hammerstone TV |
I have shot almost exclusively with my gimbal ever since I purchased it, and I am just getting tired of it It feels clunky, and I find that I do not take enough time to frame up my shots with it Trying to shoot more handheld video from here on out, as I just think it looks more natural Thanks for the tips! Comment from : Tucker Anderson |
I've also heard of people strapping the rig to their necks and pushing it out to generate tension and gain additional points of contact Would you recommend this method? Comment from : Zak Figueroa |
Thanks for the tips! What’s the track playing in the background?? Comment from : Jerome Christopher |
4k have no stabilisation😡 Comment from : StudioVisionArt |
What effect does stabilizing in post have on image quality? Comment from : Reanetse Moleleki |
hell YES this is the guide i need it still dosent really help when im trying to film while riding a bike thoughbralthough one thing i find useful is if youre using a DSLR or mirrorless with a camera strap, shorten it if possible, and put it around your neck and pull it taught to get better footage helps a lot especially if youre in a situation with a stock camera, meaning not a lot of size or weight like a kit DSLR or mirrorless Comment from : CalculatinGenius |
Thanks so much for this video! I am planning on getting a BMPCC 4k in the near future and the lack of IBIS is making me considering all sorts of solutions already but I need to know: were most of your takes shot with stabilized lenses? Is it an essential for you? Thanks! Comment from : Marc-André Dupaul |
Hey man! Just discovered your channel Great stuff! Thanks! Comment from : Fernando Martins |
Great choice for Matte Box! Those smaller boxes are not deep enough to be usefull imo Comment from : Drknsss |
Good good Comment from : Sam sv |
I always enjoy your videos I most use tripod as my back as issues so will be looking to get an easy rig I am now also working out my arms so they can take more of the strain of any camerathanks for the video Comment from : Give Back Documentary Productions |
Wow hugely helpful video Concise and dense with useful informationbrbrPreference: definitely handheld - for all the reasons you've covered - primarily for ease and simplicity I come from the digital photography world - the less I have to think about the camera, the more I can focus on what I'm really trying to do - get the perfect shotbrbrKudos and many thanks! Comment from : John Fisk |
So good to watch a highly informativ video without an arm wheeling talking head screaming his version of "heeeeeywazzup evreeeebodeeey", but with just a calm voice and some spectacular footage instead Great, thank you! Comment from : der-uhlig |
I've always considered switching to a BMPCC but I'm scared of pulling focus, do you have any tips on how to manage that while having to hold the camera with just one hand? Comment from : Braden Williams |
Great content! Distilled knowledge is rare on youtube Also nice to see someone getting superb results from the BMPCC ecosystem which is capable of great quality, while remaining 1/2 to 1/3 the price of competing Sony or Canon video centric camera's Subscribed Comment from : Peter Navanac |
i always use lens support It feels too fragile whitout it Comment from : DeeoPorK-one |
Would love some input in a couple questions, brShould I invest in a wireless follow focus with the idea that I will also be able to use it on a gimbal or have an AC or is that mechanical one way better and more responsive? brHow do you deal with rolling shutter? Especially with the pockets usually when I see handheld its all jellowybrDo you think the sigma 18-35 is a good alrounder for the 6K? or would it be better to get a similar 4/3s lens and get the 4K? Comment from : John Georgopoulos |
i love hand held Comment from : Tony Da Don |
I do both I have been thinking that if there's only handheld shots in video, the result may be restlessbrbrI have in fact done lately several very still news videos in which the camera does not move at all, but that needs kinda "strong and interesting images" with content Comment from : Henrik Blomberg |
Big point that might have been missed by some here - it's a lens with IS So if you, for example, have the Signal 16-35, you won't get the same look Comment from : Alaska In Motion |
Good video sharing bro!!! Keep in touch all ready sub Thank Comment from : Camera Technology Cambodia |

Do you think you could do an easyrig video? Comment from : Studio Evening |
I like a Mix Though I love handheld and the weight and configuration is why I went for my ZCam Comment from : Heart Shaped Films |
Superb video! thanks! Comment from : 1 |
I have to ask, isnt the top handle makes all the shots low angel? I usually shoot on eye level and I can't see how can I use the top handle Comment from : Gidi Fisher |

Maybe I missed it but did you post the link to the monitor mount? Comment from : EvanS |
Do you think there is a huge difference between shooting with your Canon 16-35 vs your Sigma because of the OIS? Would be glad to hear your opinion, how important OIS is for handheld shooting with your heaviest rig! Thank you in advance :) Comment from : Severin Werner |
I'm also looking to get the bmpcc 6k rigged up for travel and documentary work Did you ever have problems with the mic and the camera vents? And if not, which mic are you using? Comment from : JacobGr |
Well done Love your videos! Comment from : Shawn Kelley |
