Trevor does not understand the racial context in France which is very different from the one in USA and in South Africa As a French black woman, I can say that the ambassador is 100 right There are millions of coloured people who are born and were raised in France, plus have never been once in the country of their parents, grand-parents, great-parents but are continually denied as French citizens I am proud of my African roots, however, we are truly the product of our environment, I am not different from a white French person except for my skin colour because I only grew up in France And when I make a step towards my Cameroonian community, nobody sees me as a Cameroonian woman anyway, my mother included, because obviously I am nothing like someone who was raised in Cameroon So at the end of day, no matter what I do, I sound, speak, think and breath French

This was all really funny until the end bit How he doesn't see that what he says @ 22:49 feeds into the same supremacist identity politics that neo nazis are using is beyond me Saying "my French brother of African descent" is as empowering or divisive as White people saying "my South African brother of Caucasian descent" People aren't their race or skin color, that's what the French ambassador tried to say People are individuals and we all should see the humanness in each other above all Before we do like Trevor does and divide into ethnic or racial groups I think we should move past this cheap "I'm also genetically similar to you so we belong together more than those other people who have different genetics than us" Thinking like this leads down the path to segregation and racismbrBy the way, the letter never said anything about the soccer players not being able to be both It didn't even argue the point It argued that calling the players only "Africans" and not "French and Africans" undermines their French identity, which is what Trevor did in his initial joke The ambassador was offended BECAUSE Trevor didn't include their French identity in the joke That's exactly the point Trevor did some weird mental gymnastics to put the very criticism the ambassador had about Trevor's joke back on the ambassador

This guy likes to take cracks at white Europeans for their “colonialism” Like No one in Africa was conquering butchering and enslaving each other before white Europeans like the French arrived People like the French, British and Dutch were just better at conquest because they had fire arms As a positive note, Influence of white Europeans advanced many African countries by literal centuries As an example, European influence and rule brought South Africa into the modern age While countries like England and France were laying the foundations of law, science, philosophy, art, industry, warfare etc…people like the Zulu were still living in squaller and butchering each other with spears and clubs What’s even funnier is this guy condemns colonialism while being a successful South African immigrant living in and benefiting from America, a country founded because of colonialism and European exploration/innovation… Primarily the British and French varieties of colonialism in fact which make his statements even more ironic
