Okay, so I got one today at Harris Teeter supermarket dying 😕 I cut off about 5 leaves, which left 4, and one of those was just hanging on by a thread! I staked itI didn't have the heart to cut it off and it was the largest leaf 🌿 the person at the flower dept watered it just enough for me to get it home I seems pretty heavy with water Any suggestions? Thanks 👍🏽 ( at home I water my Calathea's with rain water or distilled water) Comment from : Natalie Jones |

my Orbifolia has little insects that are fast crawlers in the top portion of my soil, I tried to do some research and I think they are soil mites but it is a bit confusing because some say that they can do damage, others say that they can help the plantI bought the plant at a nursery Comment from : Laurie Brochu |

Great video, thank you! I recently repotted mine after years in the same soil and man, did it not enjoy the upset! brI've had my Orbifolia for 6 years now and it's by far the fussiest plant when I get things wrong, or transplant When the light is right - which for mine is pretty low light - and the watering consistent though, it's stunning at nearly 2 feet tall, with leaves the size of my head Totally worth figuring out! Comment from : Elska Jo |
Wow all these comments are making me nervous I just ordered an orbifolia for about $75 I hope it a least makes it ok Comment from : Lupebutterfly |
Mine is pretty happy and healthy but does anyone know how to get it to pump out larger leaves? Mine are all on the smaller side and it's kind of getting cluttered with the smaller, lower leaves Comment from : nishibendan |
There's a lot of debate about misting or not, tropical plants As far as I know, it rains quite a lot in their natural environment, so I mist them once in a while What is your opinion? Comment from : Guida Ramos |
Everyone keeps saying how it's one of the harder Calatheas to take care of and how it's super fussy Maybe they're over thinking it, idk lol I'm definitely a beginner and haven't had any issues, I absolutely love mine 🤷 Comment from : Monica Briones |
In HongKong, we call this plant as Green Apple, it really likes a green apple when I first see it, but my green apple had died recently, I think I got the plant overwatering since it turns black from the root, maybe contract the illness, coz most of the edges of leaves turn brown when I brought it T_T Comment from : ch ・erry |
I love this plant so much but it has died on me a few times 😭 why won’t it love me Comment from : detsiwt88 |

I'm from Malaysia Currently my Orbifolia still healthy I'm using 80 pumice and 20 coco peat Only use rain water and distilled water Malaysia is very hot weather so I usually watering them once every 4 days Definitely need a humidifier, and spray the plants during morning and noon time Keep them moisture, but make sure the soil are not wet, that's why I use 80 pumice Comment from : Zach Gallery |
I apologize but I might sound harsh but I hate any kind of calathea I spent so much money on them Bought different kinds ‘cause I fell in love with the colors The leaves curled, turned brown Threw them all away I’ll stick with pathos, Sansevieria and cacti Done, finished with Calatheas! No more stress🤣😂🤣 Comment from : Delia D Santiago |
I mix a lot of charcoal into my calathea and prayer plant mixes If you don't want to repot it, you can also give it an inch of charcoal on the top Even though I use distilled water, I find it helps with impurities that could be in new soil too Comment from : Xōchitl |
please stay healthy!!! i m afraid for youcorona is scary lg steffi aus germany Comment from : 33bengel |
Definitely the best care guide i've seen for this plant! Mine had thrips, i sprayed it with pesticide and all the leaves died but grew back from the root I tried Neem oil on the leaves as well but the leaves are just too sensitive Im still battling to keep it happy One of my favourite plants but also one of my most difficult Comment from : Dean Slidel |

I’m early in my journey (7 months), so I can’t say my steps are best I spray it once every three weeks with 70 alcohol and do my best to keep the soil slightly moist I have crispy edges/spots, but I still have new shoots coming up every 2 weeks brbrI keep praying every time I look at it that it is not dying or has pests Definitely keeps my attention 😳☺️ Comment from : R Darrett |

I don’t mind imperfections in the plants, Summer It gives character to the plants Comment from : Miguel Carlo Rivera |

Out of the four prayer plants I own, my Calathea Rosie is doing very well, whats the secret? Ants, small red ants did something to the soil and made it airy and the plant has never been happier The other three are kind okI live in India Comment from : Arlene Rodrigues |
i suggest flushing at least once a year, to get rid of excess salts in marantacea pots even when i use my 0 tds water it will get some salts from decomposition of the soil mix and ferts flushing doesnt get all the salts out but it gets the amount that is most easily going to dissolve, meaning the stuff that would get into the plants roots the most readily Comment from : ongweh ias |
Ah, orbifolia;brThey are the reason why I began my journey in plants; so far this one girl hasn’t died on me, but there’s no growth at all, I’ve taken care of Calatheas, I think orbifolia is the hardest for me , but I guess this is because I live in the tropicsbrbrThank you for the video, cheers !
