What is the point of an exit interview, when you don't want honest unfiltered answers from the employee leaving? If the interview isn't about finding ways to reduce turnover and improve retention, this is just a complete and total waste of someone's time

30 years ago, I left a job that was so toxic (I had a very negative exit interview as well), the person who replaced me committed suicide due to job related stress I didn't even have another job when I quit, but I got an offer 3 weeks later and got a 12k raise!

Really? In 2023, you're not allowed to tell your employer what you think, even in your exit interview? If you have your next job lined up, why would you be worried about offending anyone at the last place? As someone that's worked in HR across Europe, Asia, and a couple of years in the US (Texas), I'd say that I'd welcome all feedback in an exit interview HR should already be aware of problems and will use exit interview data to back up their arguments and push through positive changes

In my company, exit interview is required and it’s stupid lmao Mine is scheduled for next week So basically I’m gonna lie all through the call, cause honestly they’re so toxic, they kept on micromanaging us, even tho the pay is not really high -- like bro we are not robots I have no choice but to cooperate and just tell them I need to have a career break and stuff

I dont understand the point of providing false answers in an exit interview because this provides encouragement for further bad behavior from management and staff at the company vs providing constructive feedback that isnt necessarily negative brAs in Provides feedback, but dont trash Vs just fake fluff as this video encourages brbrThese responses provide almost nothing but an ego stroke for thembrBut being unnecessarily critical or negative doesnt work Because they will not take you seriously

OMG, to sum up: American companies are not really interested at all to learn something and to do it better in the future Instead they want the leaving employee to kiss their ass (sorry) Thank god for living in that old evil "communist" Europe The exit interview here is quite different The companies here are really interested in an honest Opinion and the whole conversation is lead on a mutual trust between the HR and the leaving employee No supervisor or any kind of chief will listen and the results are anonymized so no one except HR knows who gave the answers And of course we have so much more employment laws that protect our employees Btw: I have an academical degree in economics and work in HR, so I know of what I'm talking

I left my job because of my bullying psycho boss and I told them sobrI said I felt really connected with the project and I would love to keep on working for the company but I couldn't tolerate the strain she took on my physical and mental health any longer Probably not wise but it was simply the truth I'll let them deal with this information however they see fitbrDifferent situation though, I quit cold turkey, left them without a chance to find a replacement and it was only a project, so they didn't know me or my boss beforehand

As a truck driver I got fed up with the boss and just quit He repeatedly emailed me until I answered and told him flat out what a jerk he was Every job interview after that when my perspective employer called for a reference he would forward them my email No exit interview, no email, no contact!

You have some very good insight and knowledge on the subject of leaving your job, however, I personally find it very difficult to listen with the way your voice fries your words at the end of your sentences The second nuance of your delivery is the up talking, again, extremely difficult to stay focused with listing to your delivery

I remember when I was younger I happily participated in an exit interview with my first employer I remember I called out individuals who were tough to work with and all the gripes I had with the job and workplace I did not hold backbrbrIt's safe to say, I burned that bridge, but I haven't regretted it since I probably wouldn't do it again though

Yeah, of course, anything other than a breezy, chipper "moving on to other opportunities and I am grateful for the good times" vibe is asking for problems brbrThe thing I don't understand is that bEVERYONE/b in HR bknows/b that the top reason people leave is because a bad boss Yet that's the ONE thing they're never prepared to hear let alone deal with Just let them do their meaningless checkboxes and get on with your life brbrFWIW, I did once cite a horrible, micromanaging boss when asked why I was leaving I knew that I was never coming back to the place In fact, it was my second "tour of duty" there, moreover, their long range goal was very clearly to dissolve the department I was in so there was nothing to lose Did it "help" in this particular case? Sort-of The boss got canned a couple months after I left I should add that I was the 5th, FIFTH, direct report to quit because of this boss in three years Oh yeah and I said this not in the formal bullshit exit interview with HR, but in an exit interview with the head of the department So I guess it still stands that if the exit interview is with HR, just keep the bullshit flowing

I love exit interviews, they are fun and mine last around 90 seconds and never get beyond question #1 I simply reply, "why am I leaving? Well, my lawyer will be calling corporate and filling them in on my reasonshave a nice day 🙂" You should see the look on HR's face Simply priceless

Had a Job that they were outsourcing our Dept to the same Dept overseas They laid me off and had the gail to say only way keep working with them is re apply and start over They called me on day I took a vacation day let me know I was losing my job I haven't been back to the company
