PS I just purchased the palest ever green to paint my bathroom and I've seen two videos this morning that said you should never paint your bathroom green What the ? I was thinking zen-like and soothing I guess it's about skin tone? Your thoughts? Comment from : Verna Sweet |
I love your videos You have such a great sense of style I always trust your judgment and you can be kind of hilarious The picture of the door leading to the bathroom with the notch out of it made me laugh so hard I'm looking at replacing my tub, toilet, and resurfacing my vanity (new doors, drawers, and top) the scary part is finding a contractor 😐 Comment from : Verna Sweet |
My upsairs neighbor and I put in a barn door when I moved into the place i am renting because of space and financial constraints Now I have to tell my guests that the bathroom doesn’t hide any sounds 😂 Comment from : Gem German |
I realize this is a year old video that you probably don't look at anymore , but wonder what your opinion is on vessel sinks? Since I saw my first one a few years ago, I thought how hard it must be to clean around edges of onerecessed under vessel topideal for mold and dirtjust a thought Comment from : kate flies |
How should marble veining go? Comment from : Josephine |
What about botanical wallpaper with organic touches?? Comment from : Josephine |

We’re renovating and literally moving EVERYTHING in 2 bathrooms The toilets are moving over 2-3 feet The tub and the showers are all moving DRASTICALLY 😂 Comment from : IntheCiTY |

I do not like floating vanities Had one at my old college apartment and until we got a cabinet the only storage was behind the dooracross the room from the toilet If you ran out of toilet paper you had to waddle across to the cabinet until we got another (ugly) shelf to crowd it up I like vanities because usually they're by the toilet and you can store extra towels and toilet paper in them Comment from : CC |
Bathroom carpetso gross🤮 Comment from : pjsurratt |
And worm toilets are MUCH harder to clean Comment from : Dottie Baker |
My apartment came with a barn door for the bathroom and every time I shower, the whole damn place sounds like there's a monsoon happening inside Comment from : Nocturne22 |
One of my relative had all of his rooms, bathrooms, kitchen as "themed rooms" All rooms completely different Looked wonderful on day 1 By day 7 nobody liked them Eventually his children broke things over the years and themes faded away Now his house is almost all plain white Comment from : sheraz1001 |
I love your take on this I'm getting ready to design my tiny awkward 2nd bathroom and these ideas are so helpful Thanks Nick! Comment from : B Franklin |
Barn doors are fine in a master bath that has a toilet with a seperate door Not on a guest bathroom 😂 Comment from : cdi |
everyone always misses a place to put dirty clothes I love my renovated bathroom, pull out drawer for dirty clothes! I think the led lighting under cabinets looks a little cheap to be honest You want good lighting to be able to do your makeup Wall sconces half the time dont cut it I put led lights in the niches for mood lighting when Im taking a bath and candles Comment from : di brentley |
Because falls are a huge statistical problem in bathrooms, an out opening door or pocket door is far better than a door that swings into the room The reason is if someone falls and cannot get up, they can block the door making it extremely difficult to help them Comment from : Jemari Jo |
Thank you for the information helped me a lot in the renovation of my 34 yo comfort room I never realized changing the toilet seat would become problematic until I learned to accept that my space became smaller Comment from : Rebecca Martinez |
There's a difference between floor tile and wall tile All tile is rated for one or both, and comes down to the strength of that tile, as well as its slip factor Putting wall tile on the floor is a BIG NO NO and yes, many people don't pay attention So if you're slipping in your tiled shower, you probably did it wrong lol Comment from : Sam The Skoolie |
Floating toilets are not good It looks good but if there is a problem, it would be an expensive fix Comment from : Ash T |
Smaller tiles in showers are actually required by code in most places Comment from : Quinton Linn |
Tiny condo ensuite, just installed a sliding door using barn door hardware Since its the ensuite, its in the principal bedroom It gave so much more space not having to scooch over to allow the door swing and now the door doesnt grab the shower bathmat and ball it up This is the one exception to the rule Comment from : Karen D |
I hate barn doors that are not in a barn Thanks ❤ Comment from : DesireeGonza |
I took out both tubs, prefer using a portable tub in the shower for kids Much easier to clean and multipurpose Comment from : Julie Shen |
God, you make my laugh (I'm at the 'anchor over the toilet' portion) Comment from : Beverley Wilson |
I love you Nick and I mostly follow your advice, but re floating anything, it isn't an advantage that you can clean underneath a floating anything - if it isn't floating you don't have to clean underneath it! Comment from : Beverley Wilson |
Boy did I get the wrong team! Sad and teary (and expensive) Comment from : Beverley Wilson |
I don't care for children either Comment from : Einah Sirro |
The most common video mistake I see is when people add silly audio whenever there's text added to the screen, or every time the video changes content Blip, blop, wzz, swoosh 😖 Comment from : BC |
My parents have a 100 year old house and the tiles in their barely-renovated bathroom are what is in style now (hexagonal and subway tile) Full circle cycle after 100 yrs - no renovation need, lol Comment from : Pascale DesLauriers |
Tile can look so nice, but if I have to spend another Sunday afternoon scrubbing mildew out of the grout in a cheap apartment shower with poor ventilation and a fixed shower head, I’m gonna go smash the tile display at the nearest Home Depot Comment from : flawlix |
Pocket doors are extremely difficult to install vs other doors and barn doors work well in smaller, tract hoes because not everyone has a 1/2 million dollar home Comment from : Judy S |
This was great Everyone doing a bathroom should watch it I have a few things to add On the grout—it also matters a lot how wide the grout line is I find that very narrow grout lines look better than wide ones and hold up better too On the floating toilets—huge plumbing bill if something goes wrong All the works are behind the wall And lastly, the new water saving toilets have caused major sewage backups in homes that weren’t built for them Oddly the solution is to flush twice Really Comment from : Cathy Krueger |
I bought a smooth sided toilet just because they are much easier to clean Comment from : gale weaver |
I laughed watching the barn door bit My bath is not only small but poorly laid out, and something had to give Putting in a pocket door would have been best but wasn't in the budget, so I begrudgingly installed one Not perfect, but I live alone Comment from : Anita E |
Bought a cozy cape with two full baths Lots of design mistakes to correct Will be reversing opening direction of both doors: one has its light switches behind the open door; the other has a restricted openingluckily there is room to make the changes Also, one has a ceiling vent fan; the other does notwhy not? (the kitchen redo was amateurish and will be changed - who places a cabinet in a corner, next to an adjacent stove (not inline) such that the cabinet door can only open half way?) Comment from : Steve C |
Ha! The number one-barn doors We literally had no other choice but to install one for our bathroom because our home builder thinks people want their bathroom to be open to their master bedroom Because of the electrical going through the wall, we could not put in a pocket door They did the same stupid thing in our 2nd bedroom and I'm not sure if a pocket door could be installed there, but at least the open section is only the sink The same builder gave us a "walk-in" closet that wasn't a true walk-in and only one entrance to get into it We had to open the wall and install a second door on the other side just to make it usable Comment from : LD Y |
we stopped using shower niche's,, slim glass floating shelf is the way to go,, easier to keep clean- we install just above head top Comment from : ross pitca |
I love your wisdom and wit; your videos are thoughtful and fun, plus I learn good things from them 😁👍 Comment from : Cathy Hammond |
Im going to put a barn door on the master bath but the "sound and smells" activity is in a separate closet No room for pocket door or a standard door Currently bathroom opens directly into Master Bath 😶 Comment from : Kayla B |
I hate barn doors on bathrooms also Comment from : Marianne K |
Nick, you make me laugh! 😂 I love how sweet you are when you are talking about “tacky” looks And your facial expressions are a dead giveaway! Heeheehee! 🤣 Comment from : Lisa Shetler |
How many people are actually using their bathtubs? (Even the ones with children?) Because if not many people use them, how could it affect resale? Unless Bathtub usuage is much higher than I think Lmao Comment from : Straw Berry |
I somehow have a toilet with the flush handle on the left Hate it Comment from : Old Spirit Art |
I hate sliding bathroom doors nothing worse than going pee at 2am and the door rumbles as you open and close Comment from : null_user |
I would be deeply unhappy without a bath Here in the UK it's become fashionable to rip out baths and just have a shower or make the whole room into a wet room but it's a mistake in my world Showers and baths are different experiences For me a shower is a quick invigorating wash to wake me up or a way of keeping clean if time isn't on my side A bath is all about relaxation After a physical or mentally taxing day, soothing my bones in a hot bubble bath is therapy You can't get that sensation in a shower Comment from : The Central Scrutinizer |
A floating toilet is nice until you have to have a repair done to the cistern Comment from : Wet Lettuce |
Love this channel! Comment from : Zee King |
Incredibly helpful brThank you so much Comment from : Naija Princess🇳🇬 |

Me and my mom are redoing our bathroom ourself and the biggest problem is our blue bathtub Comment from : brandi roberts |
We bought a house and it has an ensuite bathroom with barn door / sliding door and I cant wait to tackle the removal Comment from : Mongoz08 |
Great suggestions! Footnote on grout - I have a hexagon tile floor in black and white, but opted for dark gray grout so it wouldn’t show discoloration as much as white grout would show Comment from : TheJojo01902 |
Nick how do I find a designer for my bathroom renovation? Comment from : Laurie Oneil |
Regardless of resale I think the no tub route depends on the age of the homeowner If you have one bathroom and it’s too small for a separate tub and shower, stepping over the tub becomes a bigger and bigger issue I’m not sure how a walk-in tub/shower combo would be for resale, but they typically don’t have the same footprint as a standard sized tub in the models I’ve seen Resale isn’t as big a concern later in life Safety is And I don’t believe no tub is as big a resale issue as it was even 30 years ago The number of single and childless by choice buyers has dramatically increased and continues to do so Comment from : Trina Roe |
Another good reason to keep a bathtub is it can be used to fill with water in case of emergency Comment from : Sandra E |
We need more honest bluntness like this in the world! Comment from : Anthony Chanchavac |
Theme pictures So funny What do you think of a mirror with LED light on the border?brAlso, with a small BR, should you go with as big as tile as possible on all the walls? Comment from : anthony silva |
Ughhhhhh… yes, the “worm toilet” is awful, so hard to clean 😩 Comment from : Anxylum |
I loved, thanks for your ideas❤ Comment from : Jasmine |
Barn doors/ barn smells! Comment from : Elizabeth McGlothlin |
I think Barn Door can work I've seen some putting slim mechanism which reduce the gap between the door and wall Plus installing weather strip Comment from : Gros zozo |
I don’t care for kids? Gosh, that’s poor wording Comment from : Jimmy Green |
I do not know who to ask for help for an affordable renovation Comment from : Gaia’s Galaxy |
I enjoyed your video! It was very helpful & entertaining! I laughed out loud! Tysm!😃 Comment from : gabrielle jaski |
Apparently, document boxes are the new trend in luxury bathrooms Comment from : Ginger Tunstall |
Thank you for encouraging keeping bathtubs I live in cold (currently hot and smoky) Alberta and there are no words for how much I love my Kohler Mendota enameled cast iron bathtub We reno'd our 1950's bungalow in 2018 and everyone pressured me to get rid of the bathtub, especially the 5 contractors we interviewed I would never want a home that doesn't have one good tub, preferably not acrylic ♥🛁 Comment from : Miss Dashwood |
YES! Thank you FUCK BARN DOORS IN BATHROOMS They suck so bad Unwieldy to open, noisy to close, and they let ALL the sounds and smells in and out Also, WTF is up with every new hotel INSISTING on installing GLASS barn doors (or glass doors, or even, I shit you not, fabric curtains) to separate the toilet from the rest of the bedroom? And I'm not talking about hovels like Comfort Inns or EconoLodge This is a trend in middle- to upper middle-range chains too Is this a subtle way of preventing hotel guests from feeling amorous about the person sharing the room with them? (As in: let's make the guest's partner endure the intimate sounds, not the neighbors) This is a vast hotel lobby conspiracy Someone has to get to the bottom of it Comment from : ochaugen |
I don’t have any problems with the barn door in the bathroom My toilet is in a separate room with a door Just me and my spouse here No big deal seeing each other in shower Comment from : Alvaro Lopes |
„Let‘s keep it classy!“ you‘re hilarious 😂 Comment from : Vanita |
We had a barn door at our hotel this weekend and my husband was not happy 😂 Comment from : Megan Truett |
How about those new builds with the closet inside of the bathroom! ? ( humidity comments) Comment from : Jersey Family |
I love watching your channel and I love how (despite sharing a birthday) we disagree on pretty much EVERYTHING Kitsch is my jam, it's absolutely what I was going for in my cow themed bathroom that I WISH could have a barn door But it's a great place for some MOO'd lighting Comment from : OriSnori |
Hey Nick, thanks for your videos I'm grateful to always learn something new 🙂 I have a question for you that I think you may be able to help with brI just purchased a new condo in Montreal and my bathroom has a window (!) It's frosted glass and it lets in so much light, I love it My question is, should I put curtains? It's right near the toilet and it's a half window What are your thoughts? Comment from : Bianca L |
Don’t need a bathtub 🛁 Just buy a big bucket that’s wide and your 👍 good Comment from : Vibes Bae |
Oh no! I never considered ohhhh barn doors… wow true Comment from : Lola Bear |
On the humidity in the bathroom, my parents had to gut theirs because they used the wrong kind of drywall when they built it and it molded, badly! Please make sure you use stuff that won't mold You don't want to breathe that in Bath tubs are good for handwashing larger items If you have a shower curtain, and you're not throwing it in the washing machine once in a while, gross! Comment from : TheDisneylover23 |
I have the shower curtain that buttons into the outer shell The best money I ever spent for a shower curtain No need to remove entire shower curtain, easy to wash Snap back into shellbrMy master bathroom is smaller than my closet So, I replaced my door with an accordion style door, works perfect Comment from : Ti Gq |
Who on earth puts carpet in a bathroom? 🤯brEdit: also, what do you do when you have an apartment with a really small bathroom that can only fit a shower OR a bathtub and you don't care for baths? Force yourself to install a bath/shower combo so you have to shower in the bathtub (also not making it very easy to get in and out for older people or people in a wheelchair, like I might be one day coz I have MS 🤷🏼♀️)? Comment from : Sassy girl |
I live and Mexico and bath tubs are not a thing here🎉 Comment from : Urs Ten |
If only one bathroom has a tub it should be the master bath Your guests will not be bathing You may not be bathing either but A new owner who enjoys the bath will want to bathe in their own bathroom Not hiking with bubbles and bath bombs to the guest bath Comment from : Carol Fraughton |
😂🤣🤣🤣"You all know I don't care for children" Comment from : Annie |
I disagree on the bathtub thing I raised my kids without using the old leaking bathtub that I had I just remodeled my bathroom and got rid of it Comment from : Annette Ferguson |
The worm toilets are cheaper, we have them and I hate cleaning them Comment from : Shar Roon |
